Being unprepared for Trinity to come out doesn't reflect well on the Obama campaign, it seems like a valid consideration.

In FYM people spun Wrights comments in light of white racism and bigotry over the decades, not justifying or excusing them, and made a point that Obama was showing strength of character not throwing Wright under the bus, until he did.

McCain didn't take to long to dissociate himself from Hagee.

The hysteria over the wombs of Sarah Palin and her daughter demonstrates exactly why this pick was a well calculated choice by the McCain campaign.

mccain did so immediately *after* wright, and after he actively sought his endorsement.

as for Trinity, yes, that was the proverbial skeleton in the closet as Obama goes. but i'm sure they weight the costs and the benefits, and they turned it into an opportunity for Obama to give the finest speech on race in America, perhaps ever.

that said, the vetting process for a VP is quite, quite different than an individual declaring himself fit for the presidency.

quite different. the first rule of the VP pick is "first do no harm."

Economy at 60-year low, says Darling. And it will get worse
The Guardian,
Saturday August 30 2008

Britain is facing "arguably the worst" economic downturn in 60 years which will be "more profound and long-lasting" than people had expected, Alistair Darling, the chancellor, tells the Guardian today.

In the government's gravest assessment of the economy, which follows a warning from a Bank of England policymaker that 2 million people could be out of work by Christmas, Darling admits he had no idea how serious the credit crunch would become.
Economic downturn. Unemployment. Credit crunch.
So, the "American dream is slipping away" because of "eight years of Bush and McCain," in England too?

After he denounced him, then embraced him, then disassociate himself again...

A minor derailment

Can I just derail this thread for a moment to let all my favorite FYMers know that my son was born yesterday! Just couldn't keep the good news to myself and I wasn't sure how many of you read the Interference blogs.

Now, as you were. . .

sue me. it is a fact that it is a story that's going around the internet on serious, well-read blogs.
I also haven't noticed anyone here "spreading" this story. I noticed someone posted it here or discussion, and discussion ensued. What malice!

I, for one, am getting sick and tired of your gossiping, Irvine.
