I'm not talking about a socialist utopia in europe or canada. But the fact remains that most western countries are more liberal. The conservative party in the UK cannot even talk about cutting taxes like republicans in the US can. In the UK they equate taxes with benefits. The values between Americans and the British seem to be so different.

Of course high taxes contributes to the Netherlands having the greatest health care system according to some international magazine i just read. um, i'll try to find it. taxes enable the government to provide protection for it's people. without taxes bush couldn't fight all the people he wants to fight, remember that republicans.

My niece in Italy has dual citizenship, Italian and U.S. She prefers European politics. It's only natural as she was born and raised there in the first place. She does like the States but doesn't really consider it home.

I agree with you. Not every tax cut is a good tax cut, I wish Bush could come to that conclusion. I do think that the government should not waste money on the many abortion clinics we have, or like Grey Davis, give large amounts of it to illegal immigrants.

Also, not waste money on war unless it's absolutely necessary.

Rags to riches is no myth!

What gets really confusing is that while America is so... many still want to come to America. Why? Hasn't the world figured out you probably won't strike it rich here? Rags to riches is a myth.

Rags to riches is surely not a myth. As just two of tens of thousands of examples, ask the various muti-million dollar paid Cuban baseball players who arv'd in America via raft -- or ask former ragster Johnny Boy Edwards, U.S. Senator, who trial-lawyered his way to multi-millions of dollars and a U.S. Vice-Presidential candidate nomineeship!!

Out of the millions of million-dollar dreamers in the US how many actually reach the landmark? How many Bill Gates, Oprahs, John Edwards etc are there compared to middle to low income amerians? Rags to riches happens so little (grammer error i'm sure) that it hardly can be seen as anything but a myth
