Normal This was just kind of creepy.

I was going through the FYM archives reading my posts as U2andPolitix reading stuff that I wrote, promoting a Kerry/Edwards ticket all the way back in January of last year, and people's reactions to it. It just seems like so long ago now, but it was only a year ago. But that era is over, and it's time for us Democrats to move on to a new era, if you haven't already.

do you really think US could elect an african-american president at this time? in one episode in simpsons some republicans were getting ready for an election 'a gay president in 2084' ... i dont think an african-american president is likely to be elected for a long time.. but thats just my opinion

I'm pulling for my governor, Mark Warner in 2008, and my dream ticket would be Warner/Obama. As for an actual african american president anytime soon, I can only hope there will be one in my lifetime.

Well, by "Obama era" I don't just mean Obama himself, as he has repeatedly said he will not even consider running for President in '08. I mean a more progressive, optimistic, inclusive Democratic party, infused with more people like Barack Obama and fewer people like Joe Lieberman. (Not that I'm knocking Lieberman, I don't have anything personal against him...I was just trying to think of someone who was the total opposite of Obama.)

We've just gotta hope he doesn't have any skeletons in his closet.

Given that Obama is already the bigshot for the dems, I would not be surprised if he ran for president by 2012 - he will probably get a ton of pressure to run in 2008. I'm sure that the dems want some new faces to represent them, such as Obama. They need a young, energetic, and optimistic leader to get back on top. If Obama plays his cards right, the democrats could have their most impressive leader since John F. Kennedy.

2008 is too soon. Depending on who runs and who wins in 2008 will determine his future runs, obviously. Though 2012 and beyond I would say he has good chances.

The only problem is that everybody is putting the cart before the horse with Obama. Sure, he's a great speaker...But I keep thinking whenever people talk about him that "the guy hasn't even done anything yet!" Perhaps he will do great things, but I wouldn't be so quick to christen him as the bigshot of the democratic party quite yet. His actions in the next few years will be the determining factor in whether he's a rising star.

Wow..... you've got all your hopes pinned on one dude who's served a few days in the US Senate and gave one good speech. What does that say about your party? Not that I'm complaining, mind you. Lucky for us your party still belongs to the Clintons who are trying to keep it from the Michael Moore /Howard Dean kooks. Good Luck! You guys run on Cults of Personality and we'll run on big ideas.

Don't minimize him to just a freshman senator. He has done great things for the state of Illinois too.

Drhark, I see that you're new here, but we really prefer that people try to discuss things with a bit more civility in FYM.

Thanks for coming by!
