Soldier Detained for Making Bomb Threat
FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (AP) - A soldier preparing to deploy to Iraq was detained after he allegedly called in a bomb threat against his unit, the Army said Wednesday.
Spc. Rodney Whitacre, 26, of Decatur, Ill., was caught by military police in the middle of his allegedly threatening phone call Sunday, according to a release from the Fort Campbell public affairs office.
His room and an aircraft from his unit were searched using dogs, but no explosive materials were found.
Whitacre remained in jail Wednesday. Lt. Col. Edward Loomis, Fort Campbell spokesman, said he did not know if Whitacre had been assigned an attorney.
Whitacre, who returned from Iraq last year, was preparing for his second deployment. He is with the 4th Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment of the Army's 3rd Infantry Division.
