I think there's a difference in tossing out a "thank god", which I have friends who aren't even believers who use. And saying, "God is working here", "we are doing God's work", "this is God's plan."

You're right. It's pretty terrible when politicians use God to further one's political aims. It's even worse when those same politicians rewrite history claiming that we have a religious heritage (despite the fact that the original Pledge of Allegiance did not have "under God" and was written by a socialist), and then have the gall to claim that their opponents are actually the ones doing the rewriting!

If a Republican had thanked God for his agenda being pushed through, there'd be no end to the whining about it on this forum.

I guess if you could show a thread, I'd believe you, but like I said there is a big difference between this and what the Reps are doing.

Thanking God that your agenda was pushed through is the same as saying God is behind our agenda, and that's why he pushed it through. It's not any different than saying "God is on our side".

I agree to a point, but like I said earlier when looking at the context, this doesn't bother me. When I hear someone using it this way, a lot of times I picture a, "Well no one has to put up with her singing tonight, thank god" with a little raise of the eyebrow. Big difference in saying, "well tonight we should thank god, for we don't have to hear her voice tonight".

It is just an expression for some, and we honestly don't really know how she used it.

and if a Democrat thanked the reason and logic he'd acquired through the rigors of atheism for his agenda being pushed through, he'd be attacked on this forum and there's be several assassination attempts.

do we not hear "God Bless America" after every single presidential speech, Republican or Democrat?

i wish God would bless the rest of the world sometimes. he's given this country enough.
