THEOCRACY WATCH: Top Democrat Seeks God on Legislation

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

I think there's a difference in tossing out a "thank god", which I have friends who aren't even believers who use. And saying, "God is working here", "we are doing God's work", "this is God's plan."

When Nancy Pelosi talks - I think of this emoticon >> :madwife:

Theocracy watch...lol

"We should not and cannot rewrite history to ignore our spiritual heritage," said Rep. Zach Wamp, R-Tenn. "It surrounds us. It cries out for our country to honor God."

You're right. It's pretty terrible when politicians use God to further one's political aims. It's even worse when those same politicians rewrite history claiming that we have a religious heritage (despite the fact that the original Pledge of Allegiance did not have "under God" and was written by a socialist), and then have the gall to claim that their opponents are actually the ones doing the rewriting!

If a Republican had thanked God for his agenda being pushed through, there'd be no end to the whining about it on this forum.

I guess if you could show a thread, I'd believe you, but like I said there is a big difference between this and what the Reps are doing.

Thanking God that your agenda was pushed through is the same as saying God is behind our agenda, and that's why he pushed it through. It's not any different than saying "God is on our side".

I agree to a point, but like I said earlier when looking at the context, this doesn't bother me. When I hear someone using it this way, a lot of times I picture a, "Well no one has to put up with her singing tonight, thank god" with a little raise of the eyebrow. Big difference in saying, "well tonight we should thank god, for we don't have to hear her voice tonight".

It is just an expression for some, and we honestly don't really know how she used it.

"If"? It already happens on a regular basis.

and if a Democrat thanked the reason and logic he'd acquired through the rigors of atheism for his agenda being pushed through, he'd be attacked on this forum and there's be several assassination attempts.

do we not hear "God Bless America" after every single presidential speech, Republican or Democrat?

i wish God would bless the rest of the world sometimes. he's given this country enough.

To use your own words:

Oh grow up.

I completely agree. If a Democrat saying 'thank God' is the worst you can come up with, then I'm not too worried about your conservative version of the 'theocracy watch.'

I say it all the time, and everyone knows now that I'm a dirty heathen agnostic. ;)

yes, but it's convenient to do when you want to start a thread that mocks another thread that brought up the useage of Scripture by members of Congress as justification for the creation of overtly homophobic legislation.

Yeah, I understand and agree. Sadly though, given some of the things I've seen in here lately, I'm not surprised.
