An answer. People don't defend those networks you listed the way people defend Fox. Which is why Fox is in the conversation so much more.

People like INDY dismiss Fox's tactics as "pissing off the right people." He has said that before on here.

Has anyone here ever denied they were biased? Not to mention, I seem to recall many of us here talking quite often about how the news media in general, regardless of what side they support, sucks nowadays.

And I've also said before that I don't really care if Fox News has a conservative bent, if they want to promote that point of view, it's their network, they can do what they want. I just wish they'd own up to the fact that they are right-leaning, instead of constantly insisting on going with the "fair and balanced" BS.

it's next to impossible, if not totally impossible to not impart some bias when reporting things. we all do it. you tell a friend a story that happened to you where someone accidentally bumped into you and spilled some of her coffee on you and suddenly the woman's a bitch or did it on purpose or something. you add a slant to it.

the difference between all the news channels is how much of a bias is there and if they admit there's a bias. fox is the worst because of not just how much of a bias there is in their reporting but also how much they continue to deny they have any bias at all. msnbc is usually what's thrown in the lefties' faces as being "our" version of fox but msnbc doesn't have a slogan like "fair and balanced", nor do they claim to report news without a slant. that's the difference. no matter whether it's tv, print, or online, own up to and admit the bias and it doesn't matter how much of one there is. i don't care if you're going to call obama a kenyan, if you're going to admit you report with a drastically right slant to the point where it's barely considered news, then fine.

that's the difference. well that and also doing a better job at alerting viewers what shows are strictly news (and keeping it to the facts) and which are purely opinion pieces and actually calling them such. most lefties wouldn't say they get their news from jon stewart or rachel maddow, yet some righties think sean hannity and bill o'reilly are news.

When I was an undergraduate, my journalism professor would start off every class with the question of being objective as a reporter, and whether that was every really possible.

I agree that it is tough, especially when it comes to certain issues where it is clear something is right or wrong. I mean, how could anyone be objective while covering Staten Island in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy? Then again, I'm biased myself

But as for FOX News, their problem is not only insisting that they're "fair and balanced" when they are not. They make outrageous claims that are getting worse and worse. Remember in 2008 when one of the anchors called Barack and Michelle's fist bump during a campaign a "terrorist fist jab"? And recently they called the hurricane relief show politically motivated. Seriously, who is writing that crap?

When I worked in news, I knew people who knew those who worked at FOX and they were told not everyone at FOX is conservative, but they pretend to be for the sake of survival (those are the technicians, production assistants, writers, but never the higher echelons). I can't imagine the hell in working for a station that is getting more paranoid and radical by the day, and you can see it but the powers that be can't.

MSNBC is the only network that remotely leans left, and that's only because it's trying to vie for a market of people who hate Fox News (most of those people, unfortunately for Comcast's executives, use the Internet for news).

All other networks simply follow the format that best serves the interests of the corporations they are operated by. Fox has decided to go for a very conservative demographic, while the others are generally right-leaning economically and left-leaning socially, because those are the trends in the corporate world.

This, too. It's one thing to bring up a conservative argument for a president's policy and why you would agree or disagree with what they're doing. That's fine, nothing wrong with that. There are certainly worthwhile criticisms to be made about the way Obama does things, things that I would gladly listen to and discuss and possibly even agree with.

But I would seriously hope any conservative worth their salt would be embarrased that Fox News is supposed to represent their point of view when they have people on there calling Obama a terrorist or terrorist sympathizer or someone who, as Glenn Beck put it once, has a "deep-seeded hatred of white people", or flailing their arms and being all, "He's a socialist communist who's going to turn this country into a tyranny!" all over the place.

That is not legitimate, reasonable critique of a president and their policies. That is all outright, blatant lying and paranoid, nonsensical rhetoric. And if you have an opinion/editorial show and you want to spout that craziness, even, that's one thing (though I still think it's bad even then), but if you're supposed to be claiming yourselves as a legit news organization, that kind of "reporting" shouldn't be happening at all.

No they're not unbiased. But that's just not a true statement, about Libya. I sample all three networks and they have all done stories. So Fox or anyone else saying that isn't true.

I never watch MSNBC because they're as big of a joke as Fox. Both are comical farce.

Fox and all the other right wing media is selling this story that NO ONE out there is telling the story about Libya except them, and their audience is buying hook, line, and sinker. But what they really mean is that no one is selling THEIR version of the story and if it's not THEIR version then it's biased. They are desperate and trying a last minute "throw some shit on the wall and see if it sticks" tactic. The truth is is that all three of those stations have covered the "controversy", but they are covering it in the same vein as Condoleezza Rice, we are not privy to all the information and saying otherwise is just Monday morning quarterbacking.

Yes. The mainstream networks don't belong in the same sentence as Fox.

"Media bias" is a lie made up by the GOP in the early 1990s. It's right up there with voter fraud as an invented issue.

I thought he knew everything. Illusion shattered.

Did Sean Hannity break the law while voting on Tuesday?

That's what Think Progress wondered after the Fox News host tweeted a picture of his ballot. (No surprise -- he voted the straight Conservative Party ticket.)

He's far from the only person sharing his vote on social media -- a Pew survey found that 22 percent of people have signaled who they are voting for on Facebook or Twitter. Nor is Hannity the only big name tweeting a picture of his ballot. (Kim Kardashian did it too!)

But, as Think Progress noted, Hannity tweeted the picture with his completed vote -- and that may have violated New York state law, which says that anyone who "Shows his ballot after it is prepared for voting, to any person so as to reveal the contents, or solicits a voter to show the same," could be charged with a misdemeanor. Photographing a completed ballot is prohibited in many other states as well.

Only time will tell if the police eventually show up at Hannity's door.

UPDATE: Hannity later discussed the incident on his radio show.

“I learned a big civics lesson today," he said. "... I took a picture of my vote and I tweeted it out and then I heard it's not allowed. So I had to -- I deleted it -- whoops! I didn't know, I really didn't, honestly.”
