The "Green" car of the year gets 21 MPG.

America is fucked.

Giving the "Green" award to a car with such poor MPG performance is just silly. I actually thought this was a joke at first, but, alas, it's real. Prepare to see large assed housewives driving alone in their "Green" SUV to the mall, and feeling quite smug about the 21 MPG they're getting.

Unfortunately, not everyone is wanting or willing to drive a car like a Prius or Civic so cars like this are step in the right direction - given the poor mileage that the standard Tahoe and similar vehicles get. Large cars are part of the American landscape and that's not going to change anytime soon. So rather than trying to convince everyone to buy smaller cars, getting them to drive a more efficient SUV is a good thing.

People went from large to small cars during the oil shocks of the 1970s, and it could happen again. We're already having summer gas prices during the fall/winter, and another shock might be in store sooner than we think (if oil stays high).
