The FYM Archive is an interesting place.

So many people were so convinced the war in Iraq was going to be over in a "few weeks." So many were convinced that September 11 was linked to Iraq. So many were sure that Saddam would step down or be killed right away. So many were convinced that Bush would do all he could to minimize civilian deaths.

So many were also scared shitless at what it would really turn out to be.

And I was convinced that it would turn into a civil war with us stuck smack in the middle. Like Vietnam.

Go spend some time rereading what you posted back in March 2003 and before. Do you still feel the same way?

I got caught up in a few of my old posts. I dont know whether to be embarrassed or ashamed. I was so much more polite back then. I still didn't make any sense.

On the Iraq war though, I dont know if my opinion has changed much. I dont know if I absolutely held true to one view back then, same as now.

Fortunately I've only been around here since 2005. So I can pretty much say bloody well anything I want to about my opinions in 2003 and there's not a thing you can do to challenge me on it.

So I was absolutely correct in all my opinons and analyses in 2003. Savvy?

My opinions on the war in general haven't changed since 2003. I still say that George Bush is the only sane leader in the world and bravo to him for having the guts to do what had to be done.

However.......

In retrospect, I know that mistakes have been made in this war - mainly the fact that Bush underestimated the power of the imported resistance that is the main cause of casualties on the alled side.

Other than that, I stand by every single word I ever wrote about the necessity of this war and the necessity of ridding ourselves of the curse of terrorism.

However..............

If any of my posts offended anyone, or if I replied harshly to any messages then I apologize deeply and I take back any insults or derogatory comments I made to anyone on this board.

I don't think that Bush and his team has or ever had the initiative; since 2004 that has shown quite dramatically.

And this war has worked so well in that respect.

I agree with this.

However, I have also changed my opinion in some other areas.

Back then, someone asked me how I would feel if the Iraqi people voted for a non democratic government. At that time, I said that would be their business.

Man, have I changed my mind on that. The Iraqi people voted for Sharia law, and that burns my butt. Our soldiers and the soldiers of our allies died so that the Iraqis could adopt Sharia law? AARGH.

Don't get me wrong; I am glad that the monster and his equally monstrous sons are dead and can no longer torture and maim and kill their own people, but sometimes I almost wish we could leave right now and say "to heck with it all; sort it out your own way". But I know that leaving now would cause even more problems than what we're seeing now. The instability would be mind boggling, and I fear Iraq would fall to the head-choppin', car-bombin' terrorists.

But Sharia law? AARGH.

The definition of 'sane' must have changed with the New Year. Why hasn't anyone told me?
