Terrifying Statistic

In 1997 (latest stats available), about 6,192,000 pregnancies ended. Of that number, do you know how many ended in abortion?
1,330,000.
That's over 1/6!
That's friggin' insane. What the hell is happening?

It's not really your place to judge.

Let's say, for an instance, that the right-to-life people are right (and I believe they are), that an unborn child is a human being and killing that child is murdering a defenseless innocent.

If that's true, the number of legal abortions in the United States has dwarfed other crimes against humanity of recent history. If I have my numbers right, the Nazi Holocaust cost the lives of six million people. Stalin's purges, twenty million. Abortions since Roe v. Wade, forty million.

It is truly a hotly contested question of whether a fetus is a human life, but the consequences of the answer are very serious and should be mentioned.
My god - bubba I agree with you. This is the first time we share the same opinion.
I don't promote the right to judge in a chatolic sens of the word, but I also think that a child is a child and it's alive since the first day it was concived... so for me abortion=murder...
now i don't want to "judge" people who comitt that "murder" b/c I didn't have that expirience and I can't guarantee that I would never tell my girlfriend not to do it - but if I ever do something like that I will know for all my life that I comitted a murder and I guess that I'll not be able to sleep well ever again... I would never hide behind the line "it was my girlfriend's decision" - that's week

why can't a woman bring that child to life and than put the child to some foster home? Don't talk now about rape - that's a reason for some 0,001% of a abortions, and those are special cases.

It's an act of pure selfishness and unresponsibility (my god my spelling sucks), use rubber if you don't want a kid, and if you don't act responsible don't punish the kid - give him a chance to live.

Ofcourse - all of you who think that a unborn child is alive probably share my opinion - the others, I can't change your mind and vice-versa

In this context, I have to defend the right to judge as well. While I flatly refuse to judge individuals, the statistic above did not point fingers at anyone. It is a nameless statistic and a truthful one that I believe should make us question where many of our priorities are.

And yes, Bubba and I actually agree.

And even though most of them had gone under, their ignorance had confused Roy, making him wonder whether the things he had striven to learn, and thought of as 'culture,' were irrelevant. Everything was supposed to be the same: commercials, Beethoven's late quartets, pop records, shopfronts, Freud, multi-coloured hair. Greatness, comparison, value, depth: gone, gone, gone. WOAH.

that IS frightening. That's the size of a large city!

80s, is this U.S. or global stats? If it's only U.S. stats, it's even more tragic.

i am pro-choice. if i became pregnant, i'm not necessarily saying i'd get an abortion, i probably wouldn't. this is world statistics, what some people may not be taking into consideration is that many countries have a very high population density and a very high birth rate. many third world countries' women can become impregnated ten times, for example. many of these countries' governments encourage expectant mothers to have abortions. i'm sure most of these numbers come from these countries.

Who's judging?
I believe that a fetus is a child. If that is true, then this a horrifying statistic.

it's troubling on a number of levels, I think regardless of whether you are pro-choice or pro-life, the goal is for abortion to be a last resort; there should always be heavy promotion of the use of contraceptive devices and if that fails, adoption is the next alternative

how are these statistics compare with other industrialized nations?

I think we should kill all the low life scum that meander across the globe to address this overpopulation problem. Innocent children should be left alone.

You're not going to kill my baby!

I've always been pro-life, but I've never seen anyone make that comparison. Powerful indeed.

pro whatever it is obvious that the 'planned parenting' initiative is not sufficient in it's current incarnation.
