How bout Mike Ditka possibly running for Senate from Illinois?

Seeing him as a politician would crack me up. I don't think he would stand for any politically correct BS. I'd like that.

 They'll have to get someone else to hawk Viagra, unless Ditka plans to be one of those politicians who keeps the pharmaceutical industry happy (you may know of whom I speak).

he could never beat obama, thankfully. obama is going to be one to watch. he's a truly impressive guy. and the dem's keynote speaker for the convention.

I'm not so sure.....

But I lived through the Jesse Ventura years in Minnesota.

My run today (30 minutes of reflection time for zoney!) I am really worried about this. It is a REALLY crappy idea. A cheap move by the Republicans.

He has the potential (ala Jesse The Body) to rally people who would not normally vote. He would appeal to a ton of males, 18-54 that really have no clue what would make a good senator - and why Ditka would make a bad one. I fear the people in my area of the state out-voting the Chicagoans.

I have seen it before, and I DON'T want to see it again.

:der: "But he did coach the Bears to the Super Bowl in 85" :der:

Its just been announced that he is not running for election to the Senate seat in November according to MSNBC.

i don't think it's exactly what i'd call a "cheap move" by the republicans. they don't have many other options. topinka won't run. the republican party in illinois, as a whole, is a complete disaster, and has been for a while now. after the ryan debacle, they need a huge name to even have a chance, particularly since the state usually goes democrat, and since it's so late in the campaign.

i wouldn't worry too much. i think obama is polling well even in the southern area of the state. he's running a pretty strong campaign, and i think his moment at the upcoming convention will only strengthen that.

THANK GOD....I could not possibly live in two states that voted in "celebrity" candidates. (I will not mention that I am a native of California).
