Sunday Dispatch #263

The people who are now living in darkness
will see a great light.
They are now living in a very dark land.
But a light will shine on them.

Lord, you will make our nation larger.
You will increase their joy.
They will show you how glad they are.
They will be as glad as people are at harvest time.
They will be as glad as soldiers are
when they share the things they've taken after a battle.

You set Israel free from Midian long ago.
In the same way, you will break
the heavy yoke that weighs Israel down.
You will break the wooden beams that are on their shoulders.
You will break the rods of those who strike them down.

Every fighting man's boot that is used in battle will be burned up.
So will every piece of clothes
that is covered with blood.
All of them will be thrown into the fire.

A child will be born to us.
A son will be given to us.
He will rule over us.
And he will be called
Wonderful Adviser and Mighty God.
He will also be called Father Who Lives Forever
and Prince Who Brings Peace.

The authority of his rule will continue to grow.
The peace he brings will never end.
He will rule on David's throne
and over his kingdom.
He will make the kingdom strong and secure.
His rule will be based on what is fair and right.
It will last forever.
The Lord's great love will make sure that happens.
He rules over all.

~Isaiah 9 (New International Reader's Version)
Written four hundred years before the birth of Christ

Again, I understand and respect that.

But I so greatly feel like it must be made clear that for there to be anything substantial to come from such things...

it must be seen as only an introductory to something much larger. I agree with christianity the deeper I look within it, yet then again, I, like most people, have only the common venacular of what it's all about. I feel, though, that there should be more an open invitation for people to look further, and not get caught up on terms and words. Kingdoms and rulers, Lord, this or that. I Think the focus is greatly shifted away from what should be (meant to be?) taught, and what is being said.

Perhaps it is a ..... a glitch, or a catch...
Vernacular is neccesary for people to understand, yes... but.......... Just like a translation from Latin to English, to truly know what it means, you have to know how to get from English to Latin, to return to it's original state.

(heh, how's that for religion?)
(Heh, #2, because I just used "words" in a metaphor..... )

But anyway, i hope my meaning comes across. Words are so innefficient.....

This is just my opinion, though.

Sometimes, like now, I wonder if there was really a god sent down to earth.

I really think so few humans, especially then, and probably now, still, would be able to comprehend what he was trying to say...

The "god sent down to earth" part of the story is one reason I have placed my faith in the person and teachings of Jesus.

What a radically wonderous idea.

And I agree with you, few then and few now seem to get why the pure simplicity of the story makes it so immense.

press>>>play

If God had a name what would it be?
And would you call it to his face?
If you were faced with him
In all his glory
What would you ask if you had just one question?

*And yeah, yeah, God is great
Yeah, yeah, God is good
Yeah, yeah, yeah-yeah-yeah

What if God was one of us?
Just a slob like one of us
Just a stranger on the bus
Trying to make his way home

If God had a face what would it look like?
And would you want to see
If seeing meant that
you would have to believe
in things like heaven and in Jesus and the saints
and all the prophets

Trying to make his way home
Back up to heaven all alone
Nobody calling on the phone
'cept for the Pope maybe in Rome
Just trying to make his way home
Like a holy rolling stone
Back up to heaven all alone
Just trying to make his way home
Nobody calling on the phone
'cept for the Pope maybe in Rome

~as recorded by Joan Osborne
*i don't think she wrote the lyrics*

Back then, I don't think 33 years would be enough, even if he started preaching the day he was born. I don't know what age he started preaching, but.....

the whole origin of this comes from something I've been whitnessing lately

Different people's levels of ability to understand things, yes.... but also........ there really is so much you can know at a certain age, say 10, 5, 15, 20..... time has an increidible affect of being able to show some things more clearly.

I don't really say this in reference to Jesus, but more so who he was preaching to.

Perhaps that is why..........

the sacrifice of one's only child was used as a metaphor. Something we could understand....

Just rambling onwards with my thoughts...
