Yeah, perfectly in vogue to make a joke about France right about now. Not racist at all, nope.

Diamond quit the France thing. Despite your 'jokes', you are offending people. Racial slurs get people banned. Decide if that is what you want before you 'joke' again.

I don't know if diamonds comment would constitute a slur....it wasn't directed at the ppl more seemed like he was slamming he french government...which is fair game.

and to say a country is irrelevant in political terms isn't really that big a deal...he didn't say french lives were worthless or anything like that....as much as sometimes diamond does deserve to be crucified.....I think you should save your nails this time.

as callous...arrogant..and in fact stupid as that assesment was...it's not a slur..nor is it racist.

the United states get slammed far worse than that in this forum...and I think most of you know it.

As much as I hate to admit it...I agree with Arun on this one. I've seen a lot worse here.

i agree too. i don't care if people are anti-american policy, but there has been plenty of anti-americanism in here that never gets a second look. saying france is irrelevant is nothing compared to what people have said about my country.

I think most of the people in here slamming US policy are US citizens.

I'm not talking about policy slamming

I'm talking about claims that are far more inciendiary.

People have to remember..that NO nation is free of attrocities.

All I have to do is point out the history of africa and india to point out where europe has failed in the past.

I'm all for open debate..but slamming policy is one thing..other things are other things.

there is a clear double standard in this forum as far as america is concerned. and it wouldn't even be a big deal if ppl didn't at least acknowledge it.

It's OK, Diamond. I agree that governments are fair game. When I read your comment last night, I took it to mean all french people. I don't think you were being racist or anything now that's cleared up. I still don't think it's too wise to discount the French government, yet though. Disagree or agree with them, all you want, but I think they have positioned themselves far more cleverly than we tend to give them credit for! And [mis]underestimating someone or something usually comes back to bite you in the ass, so to speak. It's a tough balancing act and it'll be interesting to see how things follow through during and after the war.

As for the double-standard of anti-americanism, like I said above I think governments are fair game. This includes policy, as well as other evidence. For example, should we be not in the least be concerned that the Bush administration is steeped in the oil industry; companies that are already lined up for lucrative contracts in Iraq? Similarly, we should be critical of Chirac or Putin, and not just their official policies, because their character, and integrity absolutely affect their choices. It's also important to break the illogical mindset of irrational nationalism and patriotism. Anti-Bush is NOT Anti-Americanism. I love my country dearly, but I hate Bush and his administration. Slowly, and surely, we've turned the definitions of patriotism and nationalism up on their head. They're not even English words anymore. Don't believe me? Look up the definitions in an American dictionary, and then an English one. It's no wonder that such misunderstanding and confusion results when dealing with Europe. We're using subtle but differnet definitions of the same word! I don't think I have to tell anyone here that dissent is such a fundamental right; that we can not, and must not take it for granted, lest we lose it. Bush not only *dislikes* dissent, if he had it *his* way, he would make all dissent a *Treasonous* crime.

Quote:
“The President considers this nation to be at war,” a White House source says,” and, as such, considers any opposition to his policies to be no less than an act of treason.”

There is too much anti-everything going on. Too much anti-Americanism, yes. Too much anti French sentiment, yes. Please direct all irate comments towards the governments and politicians, not the people.
