April 20, 2006—Could this hill be hiding Europe's first known pyramid?

Amateur archaeologist Semir Osmanagic recently announced that he has uncovered proof that a four-sided hill in the town of Visoko, Bosnia, is an ancient manmade structure.

On Wednesday Osmanagic said he and his team unearthed large, cut stone slabs on a side of the hill that form the outer surface of an ancient pyramid (see inset photo).

"These are the first uncovered walls of the pyramid," Osmanagic told the Associated Press. "We can see the surface is perfectly flat. This is the crucial material proof that we are talking pyramids."

very interesting! a good number of pyramids in guatemala look fairly similar, covered over with foliage & looking like ordinary hills.

looks like one or two of the other hills in the background of that picture look very similar to the main one....:hmm:

More pics:

(don't know what the book says in this one, but the pyramid pic is pretty clear):

Which could indicate their similar geological setting, there are those remarkable underwater features that look like remants of lost cities but are the result of cooling magma.

Step pyramid in Europe
It's nice to see a non-bush/religion thread in here for once. I will try and say something thought-provoking to maybe help it keep going.

12,000 years ago is right at the end of the last ice age... I have trouble buying that. I'm always a skeptical when an archaeologist says ancient people in his own native country did something thousands of years before anyone else. I'm also a little concerned with the way it looks like they're excavating it, but I'll just assume I'm not seeing the whole story in the pictures... though I guess it's better than the looters finding it
looters
museums who buy things from looters
and then won't give it back to the country from whence it came

I'm also confused as to why Egyptian scientists are coming in to help.

It looks like there's some farms on that hill, I wonder what will happen to the people who own that land. I don't know about laws in Bosnia... in the US for the most part, if it's on private property it's yours, but I know other places in Greece if you find an ancient site the government takes the land away from you (with apparently minimal compensation).

Great Pictures Viva! Those are the best ones I have seen so far, and you took them!:applaud: With you there, interference has an inside scoop on the story!

How much of this mountain are they going to have to remove to uncover this thing and will people living in the area agree to move if the have to?

Well, I'm not sure, they say it's gonna take them five years to dig the pyramid out. That's just one, while they presume that there are other two pyramids in that area as well. I think people would agree to move from their farms (as long as they are appropriately reimbursed for their land), there's a really positive vibe among people in that small town, and most of them don't even have a slightest doubt that this is a pyramid.
We'll see what happens in the next weeks. They plan to dig out 200x50 metres, which should definitely prove that this is a pyramid.
CNN visited the site yesterday and interviewed that guy Semir Osmanagic who started all this.

without doing the proper research on this

i am going to jump out
and say this is not a buried pyramid

time will tell

also Noah's Arc is not on Mount Ararat

and the Face formation on Mars is a natural phenomenon,
as is the Virgin Mary on the urine stained wall

not to bring back a dead thread, but apparently the guy excavating this thing is a bit of a nut job...

From Archaeology magazine:

The world's oldest and largest pyramid found in Bosnia? It sounds incredible. The story has swept the media, from the Associated Press and the BBC, from papers and websites in the U.S. to those in India and Australia. Too bad that it is not a credible story at all. In fact, it is impossible. Who is the "archaeologist" who has taken the media for a ride? Why did the media not check the story more carefully? ARCHAEOLOGY will address these questions in depth in our next issue, July/August, but for now let's at least put the lie to the claims emanating from Visoko, the town 20 miles northwest of Sarajevo where the "Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun" is located.

a quote from the article that's from his book on the Mayas:
Ordinary watchmakers repair our watches and put them into accordance with Earthly time. It is my theory that the Maya should be considered watchmakers of the cosmos whose mission it is to adjust the Earthly frequency and bring it into accordance with the vibrations of our Sun. Once the Earth begins to vibrate in harmony with the Sun, information will be able to travel in both directions without limitation. And then we will be able to understand why all ancient peoples worshipped the Sun and dedicated their rituals to this. The Sun is the source of all life on this planet and the source of all information and knowledge. ...And with a frequency in harmony, the Earth will, via the Sun, be connected with the center of our Galaxy. These facts become exceptionally important when we realize that we are rapidly approaching December 2012, a date which the Maya have marked as the time of arrival of the Galactic Energy Cluster which will enlighten us.

He also thinks they descended from Atlanteans.

Today I heard that Michael Palin is coming tomorrow to the "pyramid" with his BBC crew.
I love his documentaries, we'll see if this one is gonna be any good.
