Just curious - who said 18 should be legal? In some states it 16. Why not 14? 11? 4? 1? Who are we to judge?

Who needs age limits if you're a heterosexual? Knock up a girl, drive to the Bible Belt state of Georgia, and you can marry a girl of any age. Anything goes!

I must have forgotten. But I was mostly thinking of my friends back home. They call me a "heretic" all of the time for my liberal views - if you can believe it.

No offense, but it makes me wonder what rock they all live under if you're the liberal one.

You have not made a single point that I wasn't able to find in a google search and read in a gay activists web site on "how to argue with a Christian fundamentalist." Don't take youself too seriously here.

This ignores all the contextual footnotes in official Catholic Bibles that I have quoted from. Here's a horrendously homophobic religion openly admitting that the Bible doesn't directly support their prejudices.

Sorry that's not good enough for you.

I'm sorry you don't see the importance of the Holy Spirit in understanding Scripture. Would you like the Biblical quotes that support this?

I believe the Holy Spirit guides all of my understandings of Scripture. In fact, I credit my prayers and meditations to the Holy Spirit last night for whipping your ass here today. Don't think I didn't realize that this thread was created solely to provoke me.

We are all in this together. Every action we perform has an effect on others - whether we see it or not.

No, no, no. I'm not interested in a generic sermon. I want a specific example of how this prejudice, hatred, jealousy, and discord has affected how you live your life. What would you have done differently had this cruel, cruel world been tolerant, loving, generous, and harmonious to you? Because I and every gay person here can cite how your attitudes have hurt us.

They are very intelligent, beautiful, giving people that have dedicated most of their lives to serving others. I wish I always lived “under their rock.”

You mock when I say the Holy Spirit is required – then take credit for the Spirit’s help in “whipping” my ass.

I never really thought of this as a competition of quoting the footnotes from a Study Bible. If you feel you “whipped my ass” you’re certainly entitled to feel as such. I guess I could probably type out more responses from my textbooks but I really don't have that much time - so I do tend to summarize.

I do wonder what victory you feel you achieved.

Of course – I don’t think too many in the other forums I tend to visit would think your “victory” so resounding. It does seem clear, and you have admitted such, you’re only real thirst for Biblical knowledge is to try and ridicule those that claim your sexual behavior is a sin.

I am not surprised you’ve found some scholars that agree with you. As I can probably find some scholars that will agree that it is okay for me to look at Internet porn because Jesus never addressed it – especially if I’m not married. The truth is – most Biblical scholarship DOES NOT agree with you Melon.

If you feel you are close with the Spirit, then I say Amen! But if you are lying in order to be witty – well – I truly feel sad for you. More so than before.

I said what I said because it is what I believe.

I do not think I am a man that holds a lot of prejudice. I am sure you disagree, because I am "bigoted" enough to think the Bible says homosexual sex is wrong.

Honestly I don't find anyone bigoted who thinks the Bible says homosexual sex is wrong. For given most people's exposure and approach toward the Bible, face value is all they know(I feel sorry for them). But I do think one is bigoted when they are approached with debate and context and they dodge all information and questions asked of them. For that is ignorance.

While I concede that the whole "ass whipping" comment was meant to be witty, it is just quite apparent that you cannot wrap around your head the idea that you can, indeed, be a devoted liberal Christian who wants nothing to do with fundamentalist Christianity.

When I posted that chart of all the various Christian denominations, you told me you understood them. Well, in practice, it seems that you don't, because you'd realize that liberal Christians are as much a part of that as yourself.

To use a very trite smilie here...

:banghead:

Where did I say that my usage of a study Bible was meant to be a petty competition? If I have a choice between believing a Catholic study Bible, whose scholarship are generally acclaimed not only within Catholicism, but from the outside too, and believing study that only conservative Christians believe, who am I going to believe, especially considering my faith tradition?

I do wonder what victory you feel you achieved.

What did I achieve? That the only consistency that your arguments have is that the status quo is always the ideal.

Of course – I don’t think too many in the other forums I tend to visit would think your “victory” so resounding. It does seem clear, and you have admitted such, you’re only real thirst for Biblical knowledge is to try and ridicule those that claim your sexual behavior is a sin.

:blahblah:

I've responded to this nonsense before. Dreadsox has responded to this before. At this point, it's a lost cause. Believe what you'd like.

When you only read Biblical scholarship written by fundamentalist Protestants, I wouldn't be surprised if they all say the same thing. Where do you think the pseudoscience we call "intelligent design" came from? When you're in an environment, where all scholarship is expected to adhere to rigid conservative ideology, it's no wonder that all the "different" voices you hear sound exactly the same.

But go right ahead and tell yourself that I'm just some isolated wacko, if it makes you feel better at night.

If you feel you are close with the Spirit, then I say Amen! But if you are lying in order to be witty – well – I truly feel sad for you. More so than before.

Then scream "Amen!" because it is true. Not that I think that you believe it anymore than anything else I've written here.

Rest assured, I truly feel sorry for you, as well. You shall be in my prayers.

Yeah, sorry AEON but you're a fool and Ormus proved it.

You lose.

On the bright side, your self-rightous head is stuck so far up your fatuous ass that you'll never have to admit it to yourself. Blessed are the pious, for they get the better even of their own hypocrisy.

That was uncalled for and unacceptable.

And this thread is, unsurprisingly, going the same way as the one I closed earlier today, so it's meeting the same fate.
