If atheism is a religious belief then so is not believing in Santa, The Tooth Fairy or The Easter Bunny.

I think atheism is a religious view; it is the idea that there is no God, or gods, or whatever. I don't think a secular government is pushing atheism, either. I think it's to facilitate individual freedom of religion, which is why I think I can support a secular government and practice Catholicism.

Atheism in and of is not a religious belief, it is purely and simply the absence of belief in any hypothesized gods.

In terms of what has been called 'the God question', there are different strands of atheist opinion, weak atheists do not even necessarily deny the existence of any god, they merely do not accept the evidence put forward by any religious believers as sufficiently convincing, and hence prefer the default option of not believing in any god.

On the other hand, strong atheists assert that is definitely no God or Creator. Now as an agnostic I tend to agree that with some of the more hardcore strong atheists, their claims that there is definitely no god or gods are almost akin to that of a religious belief, as in my view they cannot PROVE their claims, so it's an article of faith to an extent. So to that limited extent, I agree with you. But I wouldn't agree that atheism, in and of itself, constitutes a religion.

'But let me ease back into FYM before the flames get higher'-

Dude, FYM is a debating forum, everyone is entitled to express their beliefs here, as a Christian you are in the majority here, there is no need to hold back from expressing your view point.

In terms of atheism, there are atheists who are conservatives, libertarians, socialists, communists, conservatives, liberals, GWB supporters, GWB haters, etc, etc, etc, etc. Atheism has nothing to do with politics (I'm not suggesting you think it does, I'm just making the point). There are atheists more right wing on economics for example than most Christians here.

I've said before that I think this quiz is misleading, but apparently, this makes me Gandhi.

Apparently I am Gandhi as well. I guess its time to start a world altering movement.

Hell they recommend those in our position to read The Ralph Nader Reader
