I know we all hate chain emails, and wonder if most of the time there is any point, but this is one of those times when a few minutes of cutting and pasting wont do any harm, and may do some good. I've blanked out existing names on this, so doubles etc dont occur. Please begin a brand new email and send it to everyone you know - if you don't object to individual's identities being revealed in cases like this.
------------------------------

Do you remember this incident?
On February 12, 1993, a small boy
who was to turn three in March was taken from a shopping mall in
Liverpool by two 10-year-old boys.
Jamie Bulger walked away from his mother for only a second and Jon Venables took his hand and led him out of the mall with his friend Robert Thompson. They took Jamie on a walk for over 2 and a half miles, along the way stopping every now and again to beat the poor little boy who was crying constantly for his mummy. Finally they stopped at a railway track where they
brutally kicked him, threw stones at him, rubbed paint in his eyes and pushed batteries up his anus. It was actually worse than
this. What these two boys did was so horrendous that Jamie's mother was not allowed to identify his body.
they then left his beaten small body on the tracks so a train could run him over to hide the mess they had created. These two boys, even being young boys, understood what they did was wrong, hence trying to make it look like an accident this week Lady Justice Butler-Sloss has awarded the two boys anonymity for the rest of their lives when they leave custody with new identities. We cannot let this happen.
They will also leave early this year only serving just over half of their sentence. One has been accepted for entry into the British Army. They are getting away with their crime. They violently took Jamie's life away, and in return they get a new life. Please send this to everyone you know. Read it all the way through before you add your name at the end. Please add your name and location to the list and forward it to friends and family.
Please copy this e-mail instead of forwarding so we do not get
arrows at the beginning of the sentences. If you are the 250th
person to sign, please forward this e-mail to cust.ser.cs@gtnet.gov.uk Lady Justice Butler-Sloss. Then start the list over again and send to your friends and family. The Love-Bug virus took less that 72 hours to reach the world. I hope this one does as well. We need to protect our family and friends from criminals like Robert and Jon. One day they may be living next to you and your small children, without your knowledge. If Robert and Jon could be so evil at 10 years old, imagine what they could do as adults. Do a cut and paste to a new message to keep
it clean

That is terrible. I'll do it. I remember that when it happened. I don't care how young those boys were, they should not be allowed to have lives after they took Jamie's the way they did. They knew what they were doing. They don't deserve protection. Everyone should know who they are and what they did.

When I was 3, a boy about 10 came into my yard and asked me if I wanted to play. Of course I said yes. He told me to follow him, and he led me away from the townhouses where we lived, into some woods and down a ravine into a creek. Then I turned around and he was gone! I stood there screaming and crying but too afraid to move. After a few hours my big brother found me. Everyone had been looking for me but no one had called the cops yet. I'm lucky he didn't do worse to me, or someone else could have while I was lost. I don't know if he left me on purpose or just got bored with me. But little kids like and trust bigger kids, and it's tragic when they hurt them. As far as I'm concerned those boys should be locked up for life.

Hello,

I, for one, do not support this message. At all.
Two kids killed another kid and this was truly a horrible act. The security video of that mall has been shown numerous times and every time I got an awkward feeling seeing it, knowing what happened afterwards.
However, these kids did get a punishment, they served served 10 years in prison. When they murded Jamie Bulger they were 10 years old. Yes, they may know what they did was wrong, but did they know how wrong it was? What a dead person is? What happens with a dead person? They served their whole teenage years in prison, that was the punishment they were sentenced to.
Now, it seems they'll be released. They have served their time and hopefully they have learned from it. Understand what they did wrong and how horrible the act was. It is time for them to lead a life in society. Unfortunately, Jamie Bulger will never live again and his family will live their whole life with this loss. I cannot look into the minds of the killers, but they may also realise for the rest of their life what they did.

This email is unacceptable to me for a couple of reasons.
- One, it protests against the decision of the judge to award the two boys/teenagers anonimity. Recalling the outbreak of anger during the trial and in the years following it and keeping in mind the verocity of the British press I think it may be very dangerous not to give them anonimity. Challenging this decision is more or less a call to harass or even murder these two.
- Two, the mail makes the big fallacy of extrapolating the ignorance of a 10-year old. What they did in 1993 was horrible, but were they evil? I don't know the answer to this, but I've said before that a 10-year old does not have a good grasp of what exactly is 'dead' and 'murder'. They may know it is wrong, but they may not know how wrong it is. Nevertheless, they did murder when they were 10 years old. However, does that mean they are even more 'evil'/murderous now? I don't know since I don't know any details about their current mental condition, but an extrapolation like this one is shaky at best.

C ya!

I'll make no bones about it that this is extremely biased, and obviously something not everyone would agree on. Any opposition to this is by no means any kind of condoning of those 2 boy's actions either. I hope no one see's it as such.
10 years ago, they were tried. 10 years ago, back when they were 10, their level of comprehension was an issue. The way I see it, they have already been tried, served part of their time and the time for a jury to pass judgment has passed. Now it is a question of whether it was enough. I don't have any issue at all with questioning any legal system as none is without fault. I don't personally like to accept without question, the consequences of a decision made. The issues I think this email is trying to confront are those which are relevant to now. And that is whether these 2 (now) young men are ready to be integrated back into society. One of them is about to join the Army. Care needs to be taken for any law abiding citizen when dealing with any such application. For a young man who committed such a heinous crime a mere 10 years ago and is only just out of puberty, this raises a flag. I don't think too much care and caution is possible when dealing with something like this.
The other issue of anonimity is something that has been discussed at lengths on here before, and obviously there are those who feel it should be preserved. I dont want to begin an argument as such as to whether that is right or wrong, but instead leave it here for others to persue if they see fit.

I think this is an outrage that these two are being so protected and that one is going into the Army. What proof is there that they are rehabilitated? No one was able to protect Jamie from them...

Well, here's a story about that guy who just killed John Geoghan, the pedophile priest

He picked on young children when he was younger, and liked to engage in violent fantasies and acts out of "boredom"

Just something to think about

Forwarded e-mails are not valid petitions and even online petitions from "legitimate" sites are of dubious validity in themselves. Any serious petition is still done the old fashioned way--pen and paper.

Yes, I think they've already been released, but, regardless, even if they weren't, they won't get a retroactive "re-sentencing." Even Charles Manson, whose death penalty sentence was commuted to life without parole when the then-current U.S. death penalty laws were declared unconstitutional in the 1970s, will never be re-sentenced to death.

I think this email is very out of date. They were released back in 2001, I believe.

Yeah, one of them is apparently living in Ireland now

One is apparently living in Australia. There was talk about bringing one out here for a while. Who knows where they both are now. Ah well, 70% of inmates are re-offenders anyway.
Give them enough rope...
