Gotcha. No, those things wouldn't diminish my personal faith in the least but could go a long way in discrediting church leadership.

Well, if you want to go further down the road, Jewish tradition states that Yahweh has a feminine avatar named "Shekhina." Belief in Shekhina is noted through, at least, the late Middle Ages.

It wouldn't be all that unprecedented, as Hinduism has the concept of different avatars of the same god, with Vishnu/Shiva being one of the most recognizable.

Interesting. I have read some similar stuff. Some of it is good archeology, some of it is conjecture.

But I thought this was more of Canaanite tradition, and not a Hebrew one. And when the Hebrews did get into "goddess" worship - like they did with Ashera, the Judges and Prophets call them out and begged them to change "repent" from their misguided worship.

This doesn't seem like an "endorsement."

Also, I thought Shekinah simply translated as "God's Presence." I am not 100 % positive about this, so I am open to hearing other translatians.

Doesn't Scripture answers those questions already?

And to the original sermon, if it does shake someone's faith, does that reflect on the speaker, or the hearer?

Well, when I read the Da Vinci Code, I remember thinking I'd rather believe my catechism (in case you don't know folks I'm a convert to Catholicism) than a popular novelist. But if I found out for sure that Jesus and Mary Magdelene had been married and produced offspring, yes, that would change my views.

Does it? I mean does the not mentioning of a wife automatically prove him to be single?

It is not an honest form of study. The lack of an affirmative denial of any statement leave the door wide open to a host of abuses.
