Offensive Candy??

Road kill candy angers animal rights activists

Quote:
TRENTON, New Jersey (AP) -- Animal rights activists are disgusted by a new candy from Kraft Foods Inc. that's shaped like critters run over by cars -- complete with tire treads.

The fruity-flavored Trolli Road Kill Gummi Candy -- in shapes of partly flattened snakes, chickens and squirrels -- fosters cruelty toward animals, according to the New Jersey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Is eating candy shaped like animals (with no tread marks) any better??

I find it disgusting. I agree those types of items may add to and foster cruelty to animals. Children today already have enough behavior issues and eating something like that is just gross bad manners which should not be encouraged.

Kids have been biting the heads of animal crackers for decades.

How do these gummy candies foster cruelty to animals???

Eating animal shapes and eating shapes of animals which have been run over by cars and show tire tracks are two different things. Again, its ignorant and disgusting.
It fosters curelty to animals because the shapes show dead animals which have been hit by cars and it could cause kids to think that it is cool or ok to run over or kill animals. Also, animals should not be protrayed in that way.

Explain why they are two different things.

Both result in a "dead" animal....

It was already explained. If you don't understand, I can't help that. Maybe you need to re-read the posts. I also think common sense does come into play here.

Yeah, a little common sense from people over-reacting to such a silly thing would definitely be a good thing here.

What's next? Banning chickens in the store because kids will go out and think it's cool to cut off the head of a chicken and pluck all it's feathers off?

I haven't noticed a lot of impressionable little kids driving cars these days either.

I'm glad you brought up animal crackers NBC. Have you ever noticed how many animals they put in one cage? That's cruel in itself. Plus they have lions in their with monkeys, we know the monkeys aren't going to last long.

Not to mention the iced-animal crackers. I mean, seriously, am I the only one who sees the comparison of frosted cookies to helpless animals in disasterous oil spills?

I just wish our candy makers had more sensitivity. First they color the worst flavored jelly bean black, and now this. For shame.

*Sigh*

I certainly don't condone animals being run over, but...my god, it's just candy. A kid will not automatically think it's cool to run over animals just by seeing this candy-if they thought that was cool, they would've thought it long before seeing this candy, and it'd be due in part to their parents most likely not teaching them that you don't do that to animals.

Going by this animal group's logic, I guess kids had better not watch the Road Runner cartoons anymore, 'cause that coyote gets flattened, has tire marks, blows up, burns up, etc., etc. (funny, I watched that cartoon, and still think anybody who treats real-life animals in a cruel fashion of any kind is a total low-life).

It's a little silly, IMO. As long as the kids realize it's candy, it's fine. I bit off the heads of many animals when I was little and I turned out OK.

Leno had an animal craker humping another one on ebay last night.

Kind of amusing that no one bid on it.

Considering the other bizarre things people bid on on that site, yeah, that is amusing. Surprising, too.

I won't go nuts over it, but I won't bother buying the candy either. I stop for living, breathing animals on the road, but I'm not going to make noise over gummies.
