Another question: how much of the total tax burden of the US should the top 1% pay? Because looking at the numbers, it's hard for me to see any logical reason to raise that percent higher than it already is.

I'm amused by the logic that says "hey, debt has gotten us into so much trouble, that we can't get out of it without having some hard times. So let's just ignore it. It'll go away."

No one's saying "ignore it" (at least, not to my knowledge). But we will have hard times, that much is certain, and we do have to muddle through them as best we can. But we can do that while at the same time continuing to come up with possible solutions and compromises to help us get out of these hard times sooner rather than later. I will happily welcome good ideas from anyone who can help get us out of this mess.

I've said it before, my fear isn't that we won't get out of this economic crisis. I think we will. We've been through these issues before and survived (Great Depression, anyone? With an economic crisis AND horrific dust storms just making things worse blended together?), I think we can do it again.

But note the "we've been through these issues before" part. THAT is my big fear. We'll be out of this mess someday, but will we learn so we don't find ourselves here again down the line? That, I don't know.

Molen teamed up with D’Souza, whose book “The Roots of Obama’s Rage” piqued his interest. Molen wrote that “Obama: 2016″ will take a fair and balanced look at Obama’s life and career.

He thinks movies like “Farenheit 9/11″ are more propaganda than documentary, and that Hollywood liberals are using films to perpetuate their political agenda — something that he vows not to do.

Funny how he thinks that, but then works with D'Souza above, who seems to do the very same thing he accuses the Michael Moores of the world of doing. We get some of D'Souza's books in at work, I see them when I put them out on the shelves. The titles alone sound as inflammatory as the Moore-type works do.

Conservativsm in and of itself is not the problem, the problem is in the approach. And the same goes for liberalism. I don't listen to Moore anymore than I would someone like Jon Voight. I might agree more with many of Moore's viewpoints, but I don't like the delivery, because I think it turns people off and makes it harder for people to see the liberal side of things. And I'm just not fond of smugness. And I would trust conservatives out there feel the same way about some of their more notable figures.

If you want to work in Hollywood and be conservative, fine. Kelsey Grammar is and he had a pretty good career going there ("Frasier" is one of my favorite TV shows ever, so clearly his politics don't bother me that much). And if anyone is shutting doors in one's face simply because they're conservative in a liberal town, that would be wrong. But again, I don't think it's the views so much as it is the approach.

I think i have a pretty open mind. I watched Fahrenheit 911 and still tried to keep an open mind, even knowing all the way through that some of it was total BS. I haven't seen or even heard of 'dude wheres my country'.

Here's the deal, with Mr. Obama we already know what we are going to get, with Romney we aren't sure. The only way i would be willing to accept 4 more years of this misery is if i thought the alternative was going to be worse - and I don't.

President Obama has overridden Congress to lift the U.S. ban on financial aid to the Palestinian Authority, saying it is “important to the security interests of the United States.”

The lifting of the ban means, among other things, that a $192 million aid package that was frozen after the Palestinian Authority tried to circumvent the United States and achieve statehood through the UN will now be delivered.

Times of Israel explains:

The unilateral statehood gambit was strongly opposed by Israel, which said Abbas was seeking to avoid negotiating the necessary compromises and modalities of statehood with Israel. The US indicated it would veto a resolution in the Security Council seeking unilateral recognition of “Palestine,” but the issue has not come to a vote, because the Palestinians were unable to obtain sufficient support in the Security Council. They may yet seek a non-binding endorsement of statehood in the UN General Assembly.

Section 3 of Congress’s Palestinian Accountability Act, which applies to 2012, stipulates that “no funds available to any United States Government department or agency … may be obligated or expended with respect to providing funds to the Palestinian Authority.” Obama has now signed a waiver, however, the White House said Friday, and asked Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to inform Congress accordingly.

White House spokesman Tommy Vietor reportedly explained that the funds are aimed at “ensuring the continued viability of the moderate PA government” under the leadership of President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Salam Fayyad.

However, skeptics note that much of the Middle East was deemed as “promising” and “moderate” before the “Arab Spring,” but is in danger of becoming far more tyrannical.

Really? I was of the opinion that it's been decades of misery. Maybe I'm just too young to realize it, but it feels to me like this is a system problem and not a single man problem. With Romney I know exactly what I'm going to get: a man who thinks religion and politics should mix together. Romney is pretty much anti-equality all around. He's also, like most politicians, a coward that changes his views every time the public threatens to stop supporting him.

The truth is we're going to keep going down hill anyway, because it's not the president. It's all of Washington being a freak show.

He is no stranger to accusations of being a Communist.
And Barack Obama did himself no favours today unveiling a new campaign slogan that critics say has unfortunate similarities to ones used by Chairman Mao and other Communists.

The President released his new slogan 'Forward' in a triumphant seven-minute campaign video.

But long-time critics of the President such as Breitbart.com have pointed out the similarities to Mao Zedong's Great Leap Forward campaign of forced collectivisation and industrialisation - which resulted in the deaths of millions.
'Spring Forward' was also a slogan used by Vladimir Lenin in Communist Russia.

It has been used as the title of a large number of socialist publications, reflecting the Marxist conviction that the triumph of their ideology was an inevitable part of the progress of history.
One magazine with the title was the mouthpiece of the Communist League in the 19th century, associated with Communist trailblazers Karl Marx and Frederick Engels.

A FORWARD THINKING MOTTO?
Commentators have been quick to point out that Obama’s new motto seems to be borrowed from MSNBC’s 'Lean Forward' slogan.
But a fair few have thought of using 'Forward' in their marketing campaigns before, including Chairman Mao Zedong, pictured above.

The leader of the Chinese Revolution launched his 'Great Leap Forward' campaign in 1958.
In it, he aimed to create a communist society through collectivization and industrialization.

The disastrous campaign resulted in the deaths of millions of civilians and is known to be one of the most deadly of mass killing in history. The campaign also witnessed economic regression.

Other companies that have chosen 'Forward' include: Metro, who opted for 'Forward: a better ride for you', The Jewish Daily 'Forward' newspaper, and Focus Forward – a short film company.

Festival organizers in Washington DC chose the name Forward for their five-day music, art and media event.

Obama's re-election team today unveiled the new motto in the video that compares the President's record on jobs to the preceding years of the financial crisis and trumpets his record.
The film cites landmarks of Mr Obama's Presidency such as the auto industry bail-out, Osama Bin Laden's death and the end of 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' in the military.

But observers have pointed out that the new slogan bears strong similarities to MSNBC’s ‘Lean Forward’ as Obama ditches his successful 2008 motto - ‘Hope and Change’.

The video that unveiled the slogan tries to make the case for Obama's re-election in 2012 by saying there is still more work to do going forward.

The video begins in black and white with sombre music and depicts the year 2008.

It shows queues of people searching for jobs and uses graphs to highlight declining employment rates that Obama faced when he entered the White House.

News reporters detailing the bleak economic outlook are heard saying snippets such as, ‘worse financial collapse since the Great Depression’ and ‘economic disaster.’

The video suddenly changes to colour when it shows Obama addressing his supporters in 2009 before rattling through his achievements since taking office.

With images of everyday Americans going about their working lives, the video recalls the auto industry rescue, credit card and Wall Street reforms, healthcare reform, student loan reform, green energy investments, lower taxes for the middle class, equal pay for women and a repeal of the ‘Don’t ask, don’t tell’ law that banned gays from serving openly in the military make up.

In a move sure to anger the president's critics and opponents the video then focuses on 'the victory no one saw coming' - the killing of Osama bin Laden on May 2 last year.

The campaign also uses the video to target congressional Republicans, saying Obama had to overcome GOP obstruction on Capitol Hill in order to pass legislation.

'Instead of working together to lift America up, Republicans were waging a campaign to tear the president down,' the narrator says over changing images of congressional Republicans.

However, Republicans have turned the 'Forward' motto on its head with the Republican National Committee creating the trending Twitter hashtag #Foward.

They have used the hashtag to tweet: 'Under Obama's budget, Americans can look #FORWARD to $1.9 trillion in higher taxes.'

The campaign says the video will be played for supporters attending the president's first re-election rallies Saturday in Ohio and Virginia

In several Hubs, including How Obama's Undeniably Marxist Communist Policies Threaten America and How To Nationalize GM, Ripoff Investors, Gift It To The Unions & Deny It's Communism, I have been challenged by commenters on my classification of Barack Hussein Obama as a socialist, communist, and Marxist. Here are the top twenty points to prove my thesis (all readily verifiable), and please note that I am not including in this list any of the President's policies such as the socialist nationalization of GM and Chrysler which at the stroke of a pen deprived private investors of billions of dollars of their legitimate property and turned it over to the state and the unions (the proletariat in Marxist parlance).

1.Obama admits attending socialist conferences and reading Marxist literature. He stated that he "chose his friends carefully... the Marxist professors... we were resisting resisting bourgeois society’s stifling constraints."

2.Frank Marshall Davis to whom Obama refers to as "Frank" and with whom the young Obama "had a close relationship, almost like a son" is publicly identified as a prominent member of the Communist Party USA and an acknowledged Stalinist agent.

3.Obama held receptions at the home of, and served on boards with, another mentor who has had an indelible influence on his world view: William Ayers along with his wife Bernardine Dohrn. The two were leaders of the terrorist group known as the Weathermen or the Weather Underground, notable for a campaign from 1969 through the middle 1970s of riots, bombings, murders, and a jailbreak. Under Ayers and Dohrn's leadership, the terrorist organization bombed the United States Capitol on March 1, 1971, The Pentagon on May 19, 1972, and the United States Department of State Building on January 29, 1975. Their founding document calls for "the destruction of US imperialism and achieve a classless world: world communism." When recently asked about his terrorist activities, Ayers replied he had "no regrets" and that "we didn't do enough".

4.At one Obama reception at the Ayers Dohrn home Alice Palmer, who was identified by the FBI as being on Soviet payroll in the Eighties and an enthusiastic attendee of the 27th Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, announced that she was stepping down from office as Obama was her chosen successor.

5.Mike Klonsky was funded to the tune of $1,968,718.00 by an organization headed by Obama and Ayers. His father, Robert Klonsky, was an American communist who was convicted for advocating the forcible overthrow of the United States government. Mike founded a precursor of the Weatherman terrorist group, formed the American Communist Party (Marxist/Leninist), was feted in China by Maoists, and spoke in front of Hugo Chavez for the need to bring the Marxist revolution into the classroom.

6.Obama admits that one of his close friends was Rashid Khalidi, who was the President of Columbia University's Communist Party and a former spokesperson for the PLO. They had frequent dinners together and the Obamas even babysat Khalidi's children. Obama led organizations funded the Arab American Action League an organization calling for the demolition of Israel and chaired by Khalidi's wife. Khalidi held successful fundraisers for Obama's campaign.

7.Che Guevara who advocated the "extermination" of the United States, and was involved in a foiled plot to bomb crowded department stores and New York City's Grand Central Terminal, had his portraits hung on the precinct captain' wall of Obama headquarters in Houston. The campaign formally only stated that it was "inappropriate."
8.During the presidential election campaign, Hamas advisor Ahmed Yousef was quoted as saying, "We like Mr. Obama. We hope he will win the election." Hamas is dedicated to the destruction of Israel and is on the US State Department list of leftist terrorist organizations.

9.The Communist Party USA actively supported Obama during the primary election and their leader Sam Webb recently stated: "Just look at the new lay of the land: a friend of labor and its allies sits in the White House." He went on to enthusiastically discuss Obama's agenda to nationalize the American financial system, the Federal Reserve Bank, and private industries such as energy and various other sectors. "All these – and many other things – are within OUR reach now... an opportunity of a lifetime," Webb exclaimed.

10.Obama's father wrote a thesis entitled "Problems With Our Socialism" that advocates 100% taxation of the rich, communal ownership of land and the forced confiscation of privately controlled land.

11.Obama's mother was a communist sympathizer from her youth. Obama has spoken of her beliefs: "The values she taught me continue to be my touchstone when it comes to how I go about the world of politics."

12.Obama's parents met in a Russian language class, generally unusual in the USA of the Fifties, but a common activity for communists in that age.

13.Barack Obama's older brother, Abongo "Roy" Obama is a militant Marxist Muslim who has made a pact with a hard-line Islamic group in Kenya to establish Shari'a law. Barack calls his brother "the person who made me proudest of all."

14.Obama's grandparents moved 2,000 miles so Obama's mother could attend a school where communism was openly advocated and whose chairman testified to being a member of the Communist Party. Obama's grandparents also attended a church known as "The Little Red Church" due to its promotion of communism.

15.Obama received the endorsement of the Chicago branch of the Democratic Socialists of America for an Illinois state senate seat in 1996.

16.Obama delivered an eulogy for Saul Mendelson, a lifelong communist activist.

17.Obama's physican, close friend and supporter Dr. Quentin Young was a prominent member of the communist Bethune Club.

18.Obama's church, the Trinity United Church of Christ, is a leading proponent of Liberation Theology which is an religious overlay onto Marxism.

19.Obama admits that he regularly attended communist conferences at Cooper Union College.

20.Obama endorsed Bernie Sanders, who was the first self-described socialist to be elected to the U.S. Senate. The National Journal's 27th annual vote ratings placed only one Senator who had voted a more socialistic agenda than Sanders: Obama.

I leave you with the warning words of Russian Prime Minister and former KGB agent Vladimir Putin, who should certainly understand the essence of communism:

Top ICE figure pleads guilty in brazen, $600G scam | Fox News

In a brazen criminal scheme to defraud taxpayers, one of the highest-ranking officials in the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court to helping embezzle $600,000 from the federal government.

Over three years, James Woosley and at least five other ICE employees scammed the agency by fabricating expenses for trips that were never taken and for hotel, rental car and restaurant expenses that did not exist, according to court records.

His son and Woosley's live-in girlfriend, Lateisha Rollerson -- both ICE employees -- allegedly ran the scam out of the elder Woosley's two Virginia homes.

Here's how it worked, according to court records:

ICE employees traveled to Washington, D.C., on business, but instead of staying at a hotel, they stayed with Woosley. Rollerson allegedly created false receipts from hotels like the local Marriott, while Woosley approved their fraudulent expense reports and charged each employee a kick-back fee for half the amount.

Prosecutors accused Woosley of receiving about $188,000, some of which he used to buy a new house and a boat.

Sources inside ICE tell Fox News the scam represents total breakdown of oversight within the agency, especially given the periodic background checks and financial examinations given to agents working within the sensitive Office of Intelligence.

"It tells us that the vetting process and the checks and balances, the internal controls at ICE, obviously are inadequate," said Rep. Candice Miller, R-Mich., who sits on the House Committee on Homeland Security.

"It's bad enough you find some employees, federal employees, who are misusing taxpayer dollars," Miller said. "However, in this case, these are ... intelligence officers that are handling classified information."

One ICE employee involved was Ahmed Abdallat, the agency's intelligence supervisor in El Paso, Texas. Abdallat, a former colonel in the Jordanian Air Force, joined the agency in 1995 and worked throughout the Middle East, including three years in Saudi Arabia.

Abdallat's salary was by no means enough to make him rich, yet in 2010 he made three wire transfers to Middle Eastern accounts totaling $570,000, and he maintained personal accounts in Jordan totaling $1.2 million, authorities say.

Shannon Enochs, an FBI special agent, said during a lengthy court hearing that the FBI does not know where Abdallat got the money but doubted he made it working as a civil servant within the U.S. or Jordanian governments.

Abdallat travelled to D.C. at least 13 times in 2009 and 2010. Each time he submitted travel vouchers that allegedly contained fictitious charges not supported by any receipts or fake receipts created by Rollerson on her home computer. Each time, ICE paid.

More serious, however, were his trips to Jordan. Federal prosecutors charged him with eight counts of misusing a diplomatic passport he was not supposed to have to fly to Jordan.

During a search warrant of Abdallat's home in El Paso, the FBI reported pulling out 29 boxes of evidence, including two Jordanian passports he denied having during background checks in 2000, 2005 and 2010. He also denied having foreign bank accounts, though the FBI found several written in Arabic after serving their search warrant.

As a life-long intelligence officer with clearance to secret and classified papers on terrorism, narcotics and human smuggling along the Southwest border, Abdallat's file should have received priority review. Instead, he maintained close personal and financial ties to Jordan, apparently without suspicion.

Four of the five suspects indicted by the U.S. Attorney's Office in this ICE scam already pleaded guilty to embezzlement and received one to two years in prison.

Crucify Them | EPA Administrator | Resigns | The Daily Caller

The EPA Region 6 administrator who boasted of his “crucify them” philosophy of enforcement for oil and gas producers has resigned from his post at EPA. Al Armendariz announced Monday that he had submitted a letter of resignation Sunday.

In a letter to friends made public by The Dallas Morning News Monday, the EPA official — who came under fire following the release of video of a speech he made in 2010 — asserted that the decision to resign was his own and praised President Obama as the “most environmental president we have ever had.”

“Today I am resigning my position as regional administrator. This was not something that was asked of me by Administrator Jackson or the White House,” Armendariz wrote to friends. “It is a decision I made myself. I had become too much of a distraction, and no one person is more important than the incredible work being done by the rest of the team at EPA.”

His comments were featured in a floor speech delivered last week by Oklahoma Republican Sen. James Inhofe, who used them as proof that the EPA has an anti-oil and gas agenda.

The Armendariz speech compared the EPA to Roman conquerors. “I was in a meeting once and I gave an analogy to my staff about my philosophy of enforcement, and I think it was probably a little crude and maybe not appropriate for the meeting but I’ll go ahead and tell you what I said,” Armendariz said. “It was kind of like how the Romans used to conquer little villages in the Mediterranean.”

“They’d go into a little Turkish town somewhere, they’d find the first five guys they saw and they’d crucify them,” Armendariz continued. “And then you know that town was really easy to manage for the next few years. And so you make examples out of people who are in this case not compliant with the law.” Shortly after his comments were made public Armendariz apologized for his words.

Prior to his resignation the EPA administrator had more than half of the representatives from the states contained within Region 6 calling for his ouster.

So...reading literature of various belief systems automatically means you align yourself with those views? If someone reads 'Mein Kampf' does that automatically mean they support Hitler's views? It couldn't possibly be that people just like to read random stuff and learn about other viewpoints, study it from a historical standpoint and that sort of thing?

As for the conferences and other such things in that article, hard to comment on that without any actual proof that such things happened, or that the conferences in question Obama did go to (if he indeed did such a thing) were even socialist in nature to begin with, and not just someone's presumed, confused idea of what communism/socialism is.

Is there any chance at any point that we can actually discuss Obama's policies without bringing the communist/socialist accusations into it? Just focus on the policies themselves and discuss their strengths or weaknesses in a rational manner? Just once?

I find it mystifying that Mrs. G would vote for Obama if Santorum or Gingrich had won the nomination.
