No Wonder You Young Folks Are So Liberal

College Faculties A Most Liberal Lot, Study Finds

Ha! It's not from Fox News either.....

Quote:
College faculties, long assumed to be a liberal bastion, lean further to the left than even the most conspiratorial conservatives might have imagined, a new study says.

By their own description, 72 percent of those teaching at American universities and colleges are liberal and 15 percent are conservative, says the study being published this week. The imbalance is almost as striking in partisan terms, with 50 percent of the faculty members surveyed identifying themselves as Democrats and 11 percent as Republicans.

It must be because the most intelligent and enlightened people lean to the left.

I rebelled against the liberal faculty, if you can imagine that.

I was very happy that the Honors College at Michigan State University let me skip the PC crap we called the "core curriculum."

It isn't but thankfully people can tend to make up their own minds without being beholden to others.

Unless you're taking classes in social science, who cares? Science is science. Math is math. Media is media. And if one is studying the social sciences, students should, ideally, realize when something presented is an opinion versus a fact. No social science curriculum will ever be free of bias.

What is completely and utterly forgotten by all of these people who whine about "ideological homogeneity" is that business schools are almost 100% conservative. Go in an economics department and find one professor who isn't an Ayn Rand supply-side acolyte. I took my course in economics. I ended up ripping it apart and convinced that supply-side economics is nothing but a bunch of faith-based bullshit.

The fact remains that our educational system is too based on "blind faith" all around. I questioned damn near everything and still don't believe half of what I was taught; but there is a virtue in knowing and understanding mainstream theory and knowledge. Creationists should keep that in mind when it comes to learning evolution. Afterwards, education should be ripe for critical analysis.

If you can get an entrenched ideology then that becomes "the system" and when people get fed up and rebel against it they come over to the right. In the long run it doesn't tip numbers one way or another.

"No Wonder You Young Folks Are So Liberal"

Actually, nbcrusader, I find far to many young folks horrifyingly conservative.

The irony is that "South Park" is very liberal-minded, ideology-wise. The show is written as a parody of small-town ideals and the small-town POV that they do not share.

Very funny show nonetheless.
