Whats the issue, he layed all of the issues out. The cold hard truth seems to be something that warrants reprimand these days.

The issue is he has no business commenting on how attractive she is or isn't to men and how she'd better lose weight to get a man.

He's a physician, not Dr. Ruth, she didn't ask so why talk about the prospects of finding love?

Many male doctors still have sexist patronizing attitudes towards women, especially older doctors. Maybe that's one reason some women prefer female doctors.

I work with doctors everyday and there are many crusty old male doctors well beyond retirement age still practicing. And a lot of them have patronizing attitudes towards everyone. I find it amazing these men are still in practice, they are just so grumpy and stuck in their ways.

Or homosexuals. You know, if you listen to "conservative Christian" organizations, you'd think that all heterosexuals can do no wrong.

I agree. I actually have a male Dr., but he's been my doc since birth and I've never found a reason to switch. He will point out things I should monitor and encourage as far as diet and exercise based on my family's health history, but if he ever said something about how no boys were going to love me, I think I'd just walk out. The only time he's ever commented on my looks was when I was going on the pill to help w/ PMS migraines and he said "and this also can help clear up your skin....not that your complexion is anything to worry about though" which I hardly considerend inappropriate.

The women is fat and needs to go on a diet or she will die. That is the truth. I do not feel sympathy for anyone who allows themselves to get in that condition. There is no excuse for becoming obese. Even if she has a medical condition which causes her to gain weight, a good diet and few trips to the gym every week would help her control the weight. I have obese people in my family and they got that way because they eat too much and don't exercise. She needs to grow up and quit whining.

Tell me about it, I refuse to go and see a doctor when I'm at home from university because the only doctor's office in my town is staffed by doctors exactly like that. When I was about fifteen my mom sent me to the doctor because I'd been feeling really tired for weeks and had lost a lot of weight -- the doctor responded by saying I was a "hysterical girl" and claiming that teenage girls often imagine they have health problems to get attention. Two weeks later I ended up in hospital after fainting in school and found out that the reason I was so tired was that I had severe anaemia. Guess I wasn't just another hysterical attention-seeking girl after all.

So yeah, I absolutely hate doctors who have such backward and prejudiced attitudes -- I always thought people went into the medical profession out of a desire to help people, not to insult them, intimidate them and make them feel like they're wasting a doctor's time whenever they make an appointment.
