Hostage situation at Clinton's office

A man claiming to have a bomb has taken a number of people hostage at a Hillary Clinton campaign office in Rochester, New Hampshire, police say.

Mrs Clinton is at a Democratic campaign event in Virginia and is not involved in the siege.

Unconfirmed reports say two hostages have been seized.

The area has been evacuated and police are sending a tactical bomb unit to the scene, according to a New Hampshire police spokesman.

Hostage negotiators have arrived at the scene, police said.

One local shopkeeper described how a witness came in to raise the alarm.

Lettie Tzizik told local television station WMUR TV: "A young woman... came rushing into the store just in tears, and she said: 'You need to call 911 - a man has just walked into the Clinton office, opened his coat and showed us a bomb strapped to his chest with duct tape'."

The hostage taker is armed,

he is demanding to speak to HRC.

There is no up side for Hillary to speak with this person.

40-ish year old male, "salt and pepper" grey hair, apparently with a history of mental instability. He told his son earlier to watch the news today.

Also apparently he wanted to be hospitalized so he did something like this to put him there. This is nuts.

There is a sad case I was working on this summer, where a severely mentally ill man desperately wanted to be detained because he feared what he'd do otherwise. He suffered from paranoid delusions that everyone had AIDS and was trying to infect him. He grew some marijuana plants and called the police to report himself. They took him in to a cell and his sister told him they had to keep him detained by himself because he was a danger to himself and others. He was placed with a cell mate despite his demands to be in solitary. That night, he killed his cell mate by bashing his head into the wall.

A lot of people like that get lost in our system.

Blackwater knows how to deal with people that may / or may not pose a potential threat.

Why is this man still alive?

They don't seem to even really be sure how many hostages are inside, they just said one more was released. His family said he had been drinking for at least 72 hours.

That's very sad.

It shouldn't be like this.
Wonder who he's talked to or where he went trying to get help.
Who turned this man away because he didn't have insurance or he wasn't considered crazy enough.
Guess he is now.. :|

Yeesh. That's scary. Why did he get put with somebody even after it was made clear that he shouldn't have been around other people?

The whole thing's over now, though, and nobody was hurt or killed, so thank god for that. Here's hoping the guy is dealt with in the appropriate manner and that, as U2democrat said, he gets the help he needs. Very frightening.

this made the headlines in austria too

we are asking ourselves what the guy really wanted. apparently he just wanted to talk to her?

He wanted to talk to her about getting the money back -
that he gave to Mr Hsu.

Once I heard (this morning) he was basically trying in a misguided, but possibly desperate attempt to get better help- and really trying not to hurt anyone physically [obviously psychologically is something else]........ I thought the kind of things you, did sue4.
People can't always even get help in a big city like NYC, think of a small town area.

Most people living with mental illness are not any more violence-prone than people without MI's.
But it's hard to counter the perception when the sensational and horrible :yikes: cases [as ani cited] DO occur. Then the tabloids run to town with it.

I'm very glad no one was phydically harmed.
