Complacency is following a man into war, which the UN couldn't back, when the reasoning was never concrete, and to watch him destroy foreign relationships.

So yeah you're right complaceny, will kill you.

Nope, complacency would have been if we knew that an evil tyrant was consistently slaughtering his own people (which we did know), was working with the very enemy that had killed 3000 of our innocent people (which we knew, from Iraqi defectors, and was amassing chemical weapons to use against the US and its allies (which, again, we knew from Iraqi defectors), yet still did nothing to stop him. That would have been complacency, and that's not the road we took. Complacency and appeasement on all sides allowed Hitler to slaughter millions. Our president wanted us to get involved in that war much earlier than Pearl Harbor. Think how many lives could have been saved had he gotten his wishes.

While our nation is vulernable please dont endanger our nation's security by demanding your First Amendment Rights..

Dave, there is absolutely no excuse for this. You will not suspend the Constitution of the United States in the name of fighting for the "freedom" of another country. :tsk:

Remember, just because you are in the majority now, doesn't mean that someday you won't be expressing a minority position. And then, the rights you so easily took away from me, will just as easily be taken away from you. But, unlike you, I'll be defending your right to speak out your disagreement.

I agree with this....however one thing.

Freedom of Speech does not = Civil Disobedience.

I really wish the Civil Disobedience would stop so that money, needed for other things like the War on Terror (Recognising that you do not believe there is a War on Terror) would be used for what it was for.

Thank you....

So in what branch of the military and in what conflict did you serve?

What does it it matter anyway?

No, we don't.

If we do, there's nothing left for any soldiers to fight for. If we do, then we are no better than the "dictators" we hope to defeat. If we do, then you'd better hope that you and those who think like you stay in charge.

We are not "under siege." You have bought into the fear, and so you believe that you need to give up your freedoms. I won't give mine up, no matter what the cost.

And Matt, did I say anything about breaking the law? I'm talking about the right to disagree and say it out loud, like most of the protesters are doing.

Guantanimo Bay?

Do you have something to contribute to the substance of my comment on Civil Disobedience?

If you want to debate Guantanimo start a thread and I will jump in with my tears for the people we are holding there, who, by the way, are being treated better than they deserve.

Back to the thread.

Have you been there? How do you know? How many did they let go after months of imprisonment? Im flabbergasted that you support this. After all we didn't invade some other country.

This is sarcasm that most have lost here. However, I do feel we have turned into something ugly.

Nope, I was not saying that you did, I was attempting to clarify where I stood.

Jesus, diamond! We're talking about protesting the war, and you bring those pictures up!!! How is expressing my stand against the war related IN ANY WAY to those pictures!!?????

And the anthrax thing? Sorry, most likely one of us. Not one of them.

How is the anthrax scare related to you taking away my right to protest, my right to express disagreement with your president, or my right to piss you off? It's NOT.

So don't tell me that the Constitution should be suspended just because some assholes blew up some buildings and killed 2500 people. My disagreement with you and your president did not cause that. It never has and it never will have caused that.

Get over it, diamond. Your willingness to run over my Constitutional rights is starting to get under my skin. People like you are so willing to roll fucking over when it's not you that's being silenced.

:tsk:

Go ahead and argue. YOU STLL HAVE THE RIGHT. USE IT WHILE YOU CAN. But if people like you have your way, you will be silenced eventually. And then you'll be on your own.

Because were under siege, you dont realize it and youre impeding our safety.

So what if anthrax is one of us, all the more reason for a Homeland Security Office.

Thats ok, maybe you will stop demanding your rights once internal terrorism hits close enough to home..

Regardless, I still love you.:)

GLOBAL JIHAD
Bush ranch targeted
by Iraqi-terror team
'Hit squad' armed with millions of dollars tried to get smuggled into U.S. via Mexico

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posted: March 29, 2003
5:45 p.m. Eastern

An Iraqi-terror team armed with hundreds of millions of dollars tried to hire smugglers to sneak them into the U.S. through Mexico this month in an attempt to ''get to'' President Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas, a law enforcement source told the New York Daily News.

The unidentified members of the Iraqi ''hit squad'' reportedly asked a Mexican doctor and a lawyer to change about $100 million in Iraqi dinars into about $325 million in U.S. currency.

The "Texas White House" in Crawford is where the president and first lady Laura Bush spend most of their downtime. The 1,600-acre Prairie Chapel Ranch is nestled in the central Texas scrubland and was where the president wooed world leaders into his ''coalition of the willing'' against Saddam Hussein.

The Iraqi dictator tried to assassinate Bush's father, the former President George H.W. Bush, in 1993, while he was attending ceremonies in Kuwait to celebrate the success of the Gulf War.

Secret Service officials would not comment about the possible threat to the ranch or the suspects' whereabouts, but as WorldNetDaily reported last week, CIA sources revealed that a half-dozen Iraqis ? possibly carrying chemical and biological weapons ? were being sought in the border region.

Fox News cited sources claiming the Iraqis sought to pay human smugglers to escort them across the border, and authorities were reacting to tips from the public and ongoing undercover investigations.

Sources in the northern Mexican state of Tamaulipas told NBC News that agents of the national security agency were seeking six Iraqi nationals with German passports.

Mexico's Notimex news agency reported two Iraqi brothers and an American of Iraqi descent were detained by Mexican immigration authorities in a Tijuana bus station as the three prepared to enter California.

The agency quoted immigration sources as saying Dahsh and Janges Slio Mattis were carrying forged Austrian papers when taken into custody.

With them was Saad Murad, an American citizen, whom they had allegedly paid $8,000 each to arrange for political asylum in the U.S.

Sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said police in the municipality of Valle Hermoso, some 60 miles southwest of Brownsville, Texas, were informed of the search for the six Iraqis.

The attempt by the Iraqis to infiltrate the U.S. comes to light as U.S. officials announced the arrests in Jordan and Yemen of at least four Iraqi spies in two sleeper cells for plotting terror attacks on U.S. targets abroad. Investigations are reportedly underway in nine other nations where Iraqi terrorists may be planning to attack American interests.

State Department officials declined to say whether the Mexico report had any connection to those Iraqi terrorist plots, according to the Daily News.

Meanwhile, a deadly suicide bombing that killed four U.S. soldiers was followed by a threat from Iraq's vice president to kill Americans on U.S. soil.

Taha Yassin Ramadan suggested the terror attack was not the work of a freelance fanatic but rather part of a coordinated effort to beat back invaders who cannot be defeated by conventional warfare.

''I am sure that the day will come when a single martyrdom operation will kill 5,000 enemies,'' he said. ''The Iraqi people have a legal right to deal with the enemy with any means.''

Ramadan held out the threat of Iraqi-sponsored terrorism on U.S. soil.

''We will use any means to kill our enemy in our land and we will follow the enemy into its land,'' Ramadan said. ''This is just the beginning.

''You'll hear more pleasant news later.''

i was on my way to work this morning, and I pass underneath one of those digital traffic signs that are set up at various intervals on the Long Island Expressway. It's message said "Terror Threat Level: Orange. For terror tips, call 1-866-SAFE-NYS"
When I went to the Knicks game the other weekend, there was a brief line I had to wait in so I could be wanded. It was a great game... Allan Houston dropped 50, and the Knicks won. After the game, my friends and I went downstairs to Penn, past the M-16 toting soldiers, and hopped on the LIRR.
My sister and I were driving to Hoboken to go to a party. Cut through midtown, 'cause it's the fastest way. Had to pull over to be searched before entering the Midtown Tunnel, seeing as my sister drives a Ford Escape, a "truck," so to speak. Happened again @ the Lincoln.
Welcome to the new reality. We most deffinetly are under seige. Believing that there are people out there who are plotting to attack us here on our own soil is not buying into paranoia. It's a fact. Thankfully we've been able to stop those who've tried to attack us since. But who knows when some guy who's under the radar is going to try something. Being vigil and aware of your surroundings is not a bad thing. Letting the fear of it consume your life is a bad thing. Pretending that the threat isn't there is a dangerous thing.
i'm going to post some different picturs than diamond...

Every one of the things pictured has been at the center of some sort of terrorist plot... and every one is still standing thanks to our government who is allegedly doing nothing to fight terrorism.

Now that I've taken wayyy to long on the "under seige" thing, back to the point of this thread in the first place...

Protesting is one thing... protesting is legal and protected under the Bill of Rights. I may have to crack open my copy of the Constitution here and double check, but last time I looked one's right to break the law was not protected under the Constitution. That wasn't even protected under the Articles of Confederation. More and more of the protesters out there are doing things that are against the law, and then crying foul when they're arrested... claiming that it was their "Constitutional right" to do what they were doing. Freedom of speach and the right to protest does not give you the right to break the law. Protests of late are becoming less demonstrations and more disruptions. That stunt pulled in New York the other day, and San Francisco before it, of holding impromptu sit-ins in the middle of busy intersections is not a legal act. Attacking police officers who are trying to allow the rest of the people who aren't protesting to live their lifes without disruption by keeping the protests confined to the areas where their permits allow them to be is not a legal act. If you want to protest, if you want to be "heard" ... fine. Go right ahead. You have every right to do so. This thread is not aimed at the people who peacefully dissent. It's aimed at that very small but very loud minority who believe that their right to protest gives them the right to disrupt the lives of everyone else.

Get over it. People will continue to protest and you?ll have to live with it. Sure enough, the option you got is to silence the protestors. Fine, this is the first step to dictatorship, if you want that...

It amazes me to see that apparently many Americans don?t give a shit for their personal freedom, but that is just my opinion. Yes, I am talking about American citizens here, not about the administration, for once. Go on whining, I won?t censor that. Continue with your fear, I won?t censor that.

Just be aware that your fear is useless. This is about your personal life. The chances you get hit by a terrorist thing or a letter with anthrax are pretty low, compared to dying in a car crash. So, there?s no need for fear. Your fear is wasted energy. You won?t live forever anyway, and if it hits you, it hits you.

I have the bad, bad feeling that America is going down. The America I loved, the America of the 70s... and I am not talking about administations, politicians or military or conflicts here, I am talking about the feeling of living in America, and/ or the feeling of visiting America. What I see in the long run, is a country getting crazy. Mind you, there were enough signs for that in the end of last millenium. Youngsters who take guns into schools and create a bloodbath, for example. Now, after 9/11 its even worse. A whole country in the collective state of fear. Fear of what, I ask myself. People having fear when they see a plane. Why, I ask myself. People wanting to shut up a protest movement, why, I ask myself.

I mean, remember the Achille Lauro. Did people stop to cruise on ships for that shit terror act? Nope. Remember the recent attack in the theatre in Russia. Do Russians not go into theatres anymore? Haven?t heard of that.

So, what is it? It is the fear, fear without a real reason. Fear that you are talked into. By orange level of whatever and shit. By excessive media propaganda, that manipulates you to the point where your government can take every personal freedom you had.

America is going down, and that makes me sad. This might even be one of the goals that the terrorists had, and you are working towards it; in your fear you are giving authority to your leaders who thankfully take the chance to control American and foreigner citizens? life a little more. Sure, which government wants its people to protest against its policies? There won?t be any, worldwide. Which government wants to control its inhabitants ultimatively? Every government in the world.

Get over it, people. Get over your damn fear. Realize you are living in a rich, beautiful country. Create colours and plurality and creativity, instead of grey government control.

Forgive this ramble, this is just a few thoughts that came to my mind.

I'd guess its the fear that makes one willing to give up their freedoms. I'd say they do give a shit, but certain events over the last 18 months have woken people up. Who knows if America is more of a target now. I'd say yes, perhaps it is. This media drenching is everywhere. Who knows what opinions form from it. Guess I'm musing too.

But staying on topic, thats about the sum of it Headache. The distinct difference between rights to speech and breaking a law should be where you begin and end the arguments for this protesting. Again, just my opinion.

my 2 points are -
We were under siege before 9-11 and didnt know it.
We are still under-siege but are aware of it, and most of us arent afraid.
There are others that still claim we are not under siege and protest the people's efforts that make it safe enough to protest.
