Men Crave Commitment More Than Women

Okay ladies; forget about your own personal experience with your ex-husband. Clear your mind about the experiences of the majority of your divorced friends. Researchers at the University of Southern California have done the math, and they are here to tell you that men actually aren't afraid of commitment at all. In fact, they want it just as much as women do.

Almost all the college aged men and women included in the study stated that they eventually wanted to "settle down" with one monogamous partner, preferably in the next five years.

In case this is news to you, get in line: the results of this survey contrast sharply with earlier ones that indicated that the man in the relationship typically wanted to have more numerous, short-term relationships instead of a longer, monogamous one. Sure, "one-night-stands" have likely always existed in some form or another, but the survey concludes that the amount of them has been quite negligible and it's not really had an effect on the evolution of mating strategy.

How do they account for their different findings? It's all in how you crunch the numbers, say the researchers. By taking the strict "average" of two very different extremes that's not going to work well for either subject or do justice to either participant. It is this way of calculating the differences that has caused the contrast.
