Marine Sacrifices A Finger For A Ring

http://edition.cnn.com/2004/US/12/12....ap/index.html

The worst part is that they actually lost the ring anyways after he got his finger amputated!

I understand the emotional attachment to the wedding ring and the bond that it represents, but I'd have a stronger attachment to my finger. You can replace a ring.

He could have kept the parts of the ring and had a silver or goldsmith remake the ring later. Even if it had to be melted down and recast, that would be more sensible to do. I certainly wouldn't want anyone I loved to choose a ring over a finger.

I can't decide if this is touching or psycho.

Maybe a little bit of both.

I cant see any problem with that, the finger probably wasn't in great shape.

Indeed. I love my husband more than life itself, but if it came down to my ring or the finger, sorry, the ring goes. And he agrees. He told me, "I love you, not your ring."

He hopes to eventually return to the Marines, and to replace his wedding ring, but that will have to wait until he recovers.
but he has no finger to wear it on.

noble, but drastic actions.

"Doctors were preparing to cut off Battle's ring to save as much of his finger as they could."

may be his finger or majority of the finger needed to be amputated anyway..

yes this looks likely

I read that over the weekend

I think it's very touching that he feels that way about his wife and his marriage. Strange perhaps, but wonderful too

I like the fact you have a Marine named Battle.
