Thats a pretty sweeping observation you made..

You're the one that said you're willing to put your mother's life in the hands of capitalism, if you're willing to place life, then you should be willing to place everything in the hands of capitalism. Morality, justice, etc... everything.

You said it, not me.

When I talk about my future, I'm talking about my life... If your future is short then your life is short

When we're talking healthcare, we're talking about real lives.

Thats generally how capitalism works.

If you feel this way then why are you opposed to insurance companies being able to deny coverage for pre-existing conditions?

They are just trying to watch their bottom line and make $ for their shareholders; is this not the primary obligation of a corporation?

Alright, I see what you're saying. But if someones 'future' is threatened by something else like a job loss or a foreclosure, should the government be required to step in then as well?

Regulations are still a neccesity.

Now we're equating life to a mortgage? This is exactly why so many conservatives come off as ill equipped when it comes to healthcare.

I usally do not like to make postings in here about our own personal experieces, that often leads to personal attacks.

Last year I paid (out of my personal checking account) Blue Cross $6720.

This year they want to raise my premium to $9340.

I have the high deductable HSA (Heath Savings Account) coverqge.

And I pay 100% of the first $3500. anf then 20% until I pay $5000 annually.

Blue Cross has been in the news lately about this big bump in premiums. There really is no where else I can go and shop for coverage.

I have been self-employed all of my adult life. When I was in my 20s, 30s and 40s I did not have Health Ins. If I applied, I would be turned down for pre-existing conditions.

Just recently, Jan 2009 Blue Cross did offer an open enrollment through my trade association. In the 14 months I have been buying insurance they have raised my premiums twice.

Blue Cross CA enjoys record profits. They take money out of their CA Company and transfer it to their parent company Well Point, so the CA operation does not show excessive profits.

That's the American Way!

Seriously, there are millions in Deep's boat. There are many in the country who have good health (and corresponding good health care) who don't give a shit. You mention health care change to them, no go.

Ryan, like you and INDY doesn't understand... You all willfully ignore and sweep things under the rug when it doesn't fit your platform.

we have similar situations.

a lot of the current bill goes against Conservative Republican values which Obama doesn't want to take out, so of course they're not going to vote for the bill
And here in lies the problem. The Republicans NEVER talk in detail about any part of health care reform. They make broad, sweeping statements about:

- Capitalism
- Conservatism
- Socialism
- Mandates
- Buzzword

and never actually talk about anything involved. When Obama has had direct conversations with them, he made them all look like complete morons. And no one talked about it. All the news organizations go, "Well, that produced nothing" and went on with their day. The story should be huge! The president just displayed that 41% of your Senate knows jackshit about the most important issue in America right now!

But they won't. They're afraid Fox News will call them biased if they report anything positive about this administration.

Well everyone. I have maybe the best reason to pass Health Care Reform. Rush Limbaugh has threatened to leave the US for Costa Rica should HCR pass. Now, get on the phone with your congresspeople and senators. We CAN make this happen.

PS. I'm sorry to the people of Costa Rica. Maybe Obama can sweeten the deal by offering one of the twilight kids or something.

PPS. Costa Rica offers universal health care.

I love that. It's just like those conservatives saying they'd move to Canada if Obama won. They're more liberal there.

So does anyone want to predict???

Will ObamaCare pass??

My wager, is yes.

I don't even know what good if any it will accomplish. But, I do believe killing it, as the GOP wants to do, is the worst thing that can happen.

All the talk about let's start over is total and complete bull shit. They know that a do over would go nowhere.

So again, even if this bill is not that good, I hope it passes.

Health Care Nullification Legislation (# of states)

– Introduced. (19)
– Passed one or more houses. (3)
– Passed both houses. (4)
– Passed as Law. (0)
– Failed Vote or Stalled in Committee (4)

A number of racist states are considering legislation to effectively nullify any future national health care plan.

Obama was pivoting from a promise to strengthen Medicare to a call for Congress to vote when a woman shouted from the audience at his rally, "We need courage!"

The crowd cheered, and Obama paused in his prepared remarks to repeat the phrase.

"We need courage," he said. "Did you hear what somebody just said? That's what we need. That's why I came here today. We need courage."

More applause

My daughter was walking to school today, fell, and broke her ankle in two places. Took her to an urgent care clinic this evening. Registered, saw a nurse, had x-rays done, was diagnosed, they put her in a half cast for the night, and we were out of there in 2 hours. All free, except for the $27 I'm going to be billed for crutches, because we didn't have any (I actually could have borrowed a pair from someone, but it was late, and we just wanted to go home). In the morning at 9 am, she has an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon. He'll decide if she needs surgery (the doctor this evening thought this is unlikely), but most likely he'll just reset it and put a full cast on it. Either way, that'll be free, too.

I love being Canadian. I wish you US citizens could be as fortunate with regard to health care as we are. It's something that didn't even cross my mind this evening, till I read this thread.

This can't be true. We all know you Canadians have to sit on waiting lists for months for any kind of treatment. I bet you came across the border and got your daughter treated in the US. Don't try to fool us, missy!

(I hope your daughter doesn't require surgery and heals quickly.)

Even Sarah Palin recently admitted that she has traveled to Canada from Alaska for health care. She lived in some small town, even smaller than Wasilla. I can't remember how old she was at the time, if it was when she was a kid or teenager. So maybe her parents just forced her against her will.
