By slipping the word healthy in there your right because it is going to be subjective. But if to take an example where a woman offers her services for thousands of dollars a night then the exploitation line has to be open to question.

By saying that all prostitution is wrong it is taking a moralist stance no different than all abortion being wrong or all illegal drugs being wrong. The type of example I just gave is a minor anomoly to be sure but it does exist and I think invalidates the absolutist argument.

Here's the thing:
I don't see prostitution existing in such a form that isn't violent and oppressive to women. One of the reasons it exists is because men, even with all their (or our, I should say) power still thirst for more power. By subjecting women to sexual slavery we find one more way to maintain the status quo. What sex do you think of when you hear or see the word prostitution? Male? I doubt it.
Of course there are instances of male prostitution and that is equally disturbing...still different somehow. I ought to consider why, though.
Still, I agree, taking an absolutist position is something one, generally, should think twice about. (Emphasis on "generally" otherwise I make an absolutist argument.)

A Dominatrix who works out of her own home who is payed money to control a man who wants that experience, how is that violent and opressive to the woman?

Sex slavery is the forcing of an individual to perform services against their will and/or without financial gain. The act itself (sticking with straight intercourse and oral sex) is no more slavery than that act of picking cotton. There must be a distinction between sex slavery/survival sex and legal prostitution.

Yes, a thug enforcer who will get protection money out of women through intimidation and violence. Exactly the only option for street prostitutes when they don't have any legal protections. In countries where there is a regime of legal regulated prostitution pimping is still a crime, now if one wanted to be ideologically hardline then the pimp is offering the service of protection for money - but in the real world they are violent thugs and they harm people.

Again, not the norm of prostitution, but still such a scenario only reinforces the notion that women are only worth a superficial experience and price.
Then what about strippers, porn stars, models and b-grade movie actresses? I don't mind if people oppose all those groups because they view them as victims of patriachy and submissive to the system. I do mind it if they want the government to step in and enforce their morality by arresting those involved.

In general prostitution attracts those with no other options. When it is illegal it is going to be controlled by criminals. Legal prostitution can at least minimise the harm done and give the legal protections that sex workers need.

I don't think the government can do anything about it by making it illegal. So yes, I kinda agree.
There are two things I'd like to see happen: 1) the government tax the shit out of pimps, 2) the government develope better sex and family education, 3) citizens deconstruct their notions of sexuality, eroticism (which is diametrically opposite of porn), gender, and even the "self"

Attempting to bring the thread back on topic. Curious -- do Christians in the game kill? And if so, are they killing out of self-defense (i.e., are they on the run from people out to kill them), or are they waging a war of aggression?

It raises a question that I honestly struggle with -- are Christians allowed to use force to defend themselves?

I think that rather than tax pimps that pimping should be illegal, prostitution legal within a regulated framework of registered sex workers and bordellos.

Jesus practiced non-violent civil disobedience
That depends on a moral opponent, individuals should have the right to defend themselves - if their philosophy demands that they don't then thats their loss.

John 2:14-16 (New International Version)

14 In the temple courts he found men selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. 15 So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple area, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. 16 To those who sold doves he said, "Get these out of here! How dare you turn my Father's house into a market!"

I don't see where Jesus started lashing out on the people themselves. It's certainly more than possible to cause havok in a market place without hitting anyone.
I also don't believe Jesus would want anyone to lightly accept physical abuse. People like Gandhi and martin luther king jr did face violence but they manipulated it for their gain. Civil disobedience doesn't mean just take it up the arse

I love how you didn't answer the question.:|

In the long and winding continuum between peaceful resistance and killing all non-Christians with a bloodsoaked AK-47, I'd like to think that I fall somewhere around 3.

Should we perhaps take this discussion to a new thread, solely for prostition, and so that we might hear how jolly good and safe it is, and what DIFFERENCE it makes to the changing of roles when the service is consensual?

Yeah, the legalization of prostitution issue is really a topic for another thread...if someone wants to start a separate thread on that, fine, or if you want me to split off the posts from this thread on that issue starting with A_W's, let me know.

[q]FBI to release 'Army of God' bomb letters

ATLANTA (CNN) -- Letters sent to investigators and a television station claiming responsibility for two bombings early this year in the Atlanta area will be made public Monday.

Sources have told CNN that the FBI will release the letters with the hope that someone will recognize the writing style and wording.

The first bombing, January 16, was at a family planning clinic in suburban Atlanta. The letters were sent the day after the second attack, which targeted a nightclub frequented by gay clientele.

Both letters identify the group claiming responsibility as "The Army of God."

Investigators have said the letters included "specific details" of the bombs that were "not generally known."

The first pair of bombs exploded near a family planning clinic in the suburb of Sandy Springs. The first injured no one, but the second, an hour later, exploded as investigators worked nearby. Six people were hurt by the second bomb; three of them were federal agents. No one was seriously hurt.

According to the letters the second bomb was "aimed at the agents of the so-called federal government .... We declared and will wage total war."

The second pair of bombs, on February 21, targeted The Otherside, an Atlanta nightclub that caters to a gay clientele. Five people were injured, one seriously, in the first blast. Police found the companion bomb outside the club. It exploded while they were trying to disarm it with a robot.

The second bombing, according to a letter, was "aimed at the sodomite bar."

Translate Allah, and you get "God"

just because they fight for "God" doesnt mean they are Christians

real Christians have a true relationship with Jesus Christ...and they live according to His Word
