Remember, there were 12 cartoons.

Each one depicted Mohammed in a different way.

The protests are not over the 12 cartoons (on the basis of depicting Mohammed is always improper) - it is over the one cartoon showing Mohammed with the bomb.

Apologists? No, a reasonable and proportionate view.

I am not comfortable with a view or vision of liberalism which gives us carte blance to incite provocations just because we feel like it.
That is not freedom, there is no obligation for the unbelievers to abide by religious laws and if anybody demands that I do they can get fucked. Either we are free to mock and provoke any religion of we are not free. The only obligation is to do so within the boundaries of law, as is the response.

You still have not qualified your assertions of systematic and paranoid hatred of Muslims, I have shown that the word terrorist has only twice been used in reference to Muslims or Mohammed, and the word terrorism has only been used once. Show the evidence.

I'm not sure either side here holds the high ground. On the one hand, there was definitely an element of provocation involved when other nations chose to reprint the cartoons. They knew, a priori, this would not be taken well. On the other hand, religious sensibilities should extend only so far - when you're calling for death and torching private property, you have no place in a reasonable debate.
OK, they didn't have to torch the buildings or whatever. That was after the fact and stupid as hell. They could have stuck to peaceful demonstrations with no inflammatory signs. But the fact that the violence was all over, between Beiruit and Pakistan and Afghanistan, showed that media has no borders.

I wish to hell they hadn't published that one. If they'd published the others I doubt if there would have been this sort of reaction to it.

Bush never mentioned the 'C' word, i.e., 'Crusade'.

Oh no I forgot he actually did.

That has nothing to do with this thread, you have attacked character without evidence. Produce the evidence for your assertions, by making the claim the burden rests upon you to prove it. I have produced evidence to disprove it.

Clear implication of paranoid anti-Muslim bias, substantiate it, the posts make no sense with word substitution, attacking a ban on depictions of a person extending to those who do not believe does not match when communist is added since many of the communist dictators in the 20th Century had effective cults of personality.

Jeez calm down there. I was actually joking with that. It's a reference from a comic film as you are no doubt aware.

I am aware of the reference, I am also measured in response - this thread has kept on topic and it will remain on topic.

So the whole argument about "no depictions of Mohommed - he is sacred to us" is just BS. It is the unflattering depiction of Mohammed that is the problem.

No, if the cartoons hadn't featured the one with the bomb, it might not have even been published in the other European publications, and it would have been announced in Middle Eastern newspapers that "European newspapers carried inappropriate depictions of Mohammed". End of story.
