It's that time of year again. Dark at freaking five o'clock. Combined with the decreasing temperatures, and this makes life more miserable and depressing for many people. I wonder why they don't just keep daylight savings time all year now. After all, humans invented the concept of keeping time, clocks, calendars, and charts. We made it up, we have changed it, we can change it again! I think it would make us less depressed in the wintertime, and might even help with traffic rush hour and businesses getting more sales from people who don't like going out after dark. The only argument against it is that some kids would be waiting for the bus in the dark, but that happens sometimes anyway, and I'm sure they'd rather have more daylight in the evenings too. It's no fun to come home, do your homework and look outside and it's dark already!

It is a depressing time of year. Researchers have linked depression with less sunlight. It's cold for the first time this year today and I'm not exactly in a great mood. They used to have daylight saving year around to try to save energy. Then some kids were killed waiting for the bus in the morning. It was really bad and that's why they changed it. As much as I wish they wouldn't screw with the clocks and I wish it didn't get dark at 5, maybe it's something we have to do to keep kids safe.

I bet more wrecks occur with people driving home in the glare of the setting sun than ever get run over in the predawn time. I also bet there is more danger for kids playing in the streets in the dark at 5 than getting run over early too. Lame excuse!

OK, crummy excuse for changing the clocks. I'm told that's what the government claimed when they changed the rules about daylight savings. It does stink when it's dark at the library the last time of the day I get the bookdrop. Because of this I have to be escorted by a security guard! Scary! Then it's pitch black in the five o'clock traffic and I have to use some of the busiest roads in Birmingham. Ugh. I hate it.

I love it being dark. I hate the sun. It hurts my eyes to go out during the day even when it's overcast. I have to squint constantly.

Today is the worst driving day in So Cal. People freak on the roads when it gets dark early.

Lightweights.

We drive around in the dark, on roads with ice during snow storms.

Is it April yet?

daylight savings time actually does have a purpose. it was changed so that farm kids could get to school during daylight and not have to walk in the dark to get to class. lots of kids had to walk 2-ish miles to school on dark 2 lane roads, so it was changed for their safety.

it does suck that it gets so dark so early, but it helps the farmers out a lot (early sunrise = early harvesting).

in essence, it helps you all by giving you cheap food.

that being said, dark, cold days suck. i can't wait for april.

I think it should be the same time in every place of the world at all times during all seasons. Sound good?

We do it up here, too nbcrusader. Around these parts, we swath ourselves in beanies, scarves and parkas at the first overcast morning. I could really use some rain right about now. Maybe I'll move to Seattle. :hmm:

The week before Daylight Savings Time started I was having a terrible time getting up in the morning to get to work because it was still dark. Now I'm finding it easier to get up (a little) but it's horribly depressing to leave work and have it be dark already.

They getcha coming or going, I guess.

Really? I was taught it had to do with the military and energy...ie railroads, time zones, WWI factories.
