Is Chavez a real threat or Schizophrenic

http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/europe...eut/index.html

He has been nothing but problems and putting fear in to his people of a US invasion. He was in Belarus and is forming a "Stratigic" alliance.

Quote:
Our countries must keep their hands at the ready on the sword," Chavez, in ex-Soviet Belarus as part of a world tour, said on a visit to a military academy.

"After a day of intensive work, we have created a strategic alliance between our countries," he said, speaking through an interpreter. "It is absolutely vital to protect our homeland, to guard against internal and external threats."

"The jaws of imperialism and hegemonism have both us and Belarus in their grip."

Oh, you can't compare Chavez and Chairman Mao. Chairman Mao was the leader of a billion Chinese. Chavez is the leader of Venezuela, which does have oil, but it doesn't have China's power, and it never will. I will admit I don't know the population numbers for Venezuela but it sure as hell isn't a billion.

It does not matter if he has a billion. But he is using the poor to his political advantage.

Yeah, but I'm talking about scope. Chavez has a finite number of poor to use to his advantage, and it sure as hell isn't a billion. The guy can be ignored with no risk. He's not Chairman Mao or Stalin. Those guys had far greater resources.

Should he be ignored because he may pose no risk to the US?

Poverty in my country is increasing. Freedom of speech is dominated by the government. Those against the President's rule are coined as traitors and villains. Private property its been undermined. Mr. Chavez, if you think that been rich is a bad thing, as you have said - can you explain to poor people why are you surrounded of luxury?

If Chavez is not a threat to the U.S. then the U.S. shoouldn't be intervening in his affairs. They've already tried that one, and it didn't work.

Chavez is a hypocrite. But he's nowhere near the threat Chairman Mao was, so the comparison doesn't work.

Well, OK, if going in means doing something about the unemployment situation, it's OK. If it's not going to do anything about the unemployment situation, it's not OK.

People have been put in prison as traitors. People have been arrested for speaking out against Chavez.

That's terrible. Perhaps the Latin American democracies, like Chile, can do something about this. We already tried to oust Chavez and it didn't work, so I'm not for trying it again.
