Jeez you guys are so paranoid.

Not as paranoid as him. He has grandmothers taking rifle practice. giving little kids guns so they know how to shoot incase of a US invasion.

just saw the video, did anyone find it odd he got quite an ovation from the crowd at the UN, I definitely think he's crazy but the man has charisma and charm

Only his way of speaking. Both are very good convincing public speakers.

No way Chavez comes friendly, charming (in a crazy way I know) for God sakes he sings in his weekly or monthly (not sure) addresses to his country.

I don't remember seeing footage of Hitler doing that

But what about our revolution, Comrade?

:eyebrow:

:bono::Revolution? Fuck the revolution!

Things were bad before Castro and Guevara, but now they are just worse. The revolution was a complete waste thanks to good ole corruption and greed.

Chavez is a vile human being. You know he is the puppet of Fidel and once fidel is gone like PlatheGreat said. He will rule and be the new menace of the south. Why else do you think he is ordering so many weapons supplies and is not friendly with Mexico, Guatemala and any latin American countries that has good ties with the US.

Plus the man is as anti-semetic as the Iranian President.

Let's just get something straight I don't support Chavez, Mexico just avoided a somewhat similar leader (lopez obrador) who is crazy as hell

Do you support the new president Elect?? I know the other Canidate claims Voter Fraud.

yes I voted for Calderon, he was the lesser evil of the three mayor candidates a bit conservative for my taste but doesn't have a background of corruption like Madrazo or a Messiah complex like Lopez Obrador

It's been proven that there was no fraud the IFE (the organization that is in charge of the voting process) is a non-government organization (close friends got to work with them the day of the election) they are picked randomly and representatives of each party are at every single casilla or place where you vote, Obrador claimed he had huge evidence of fraud but never came up with something important, he blamed everyone from his own representatives, the media, IFE, etc etc

His protest at Mexico City has cost the country millions of dollars and thousands of jobs because of it, thankfully he is backing down eventhough he has named himself president of Mexico

All I am saying is I don't trust chavez one bit, and I will see keep a close on what he does in the future.

Well I never said I trusted him so at least we can agree on that, The US is definitely keeping an eye on him and his close ties with countries like Cuba and Iran

Hey Guys, a Venezuelan writing here. Chavez has been a disgrace for our country, he rose to power, and he was given a chance by everybody, then he couldn;t help start intriducing all his "reforms", which have been nothing but measures to increas his own power. Since he is in power our country has deteriorated very rapidly, suddenly the poor hate the rich, which never happened before, Even with all the wealth from the oil that is coming in nothing has been invested in infrastucture or becoming an economy that's not dependent on oil. He ran for president with platform against corruption, and he and his friends are leading the most corrupt goverment ever. The guy is a lunatic. Half of our country or more, does not agree with his ani US stances, on the contrary we ahve always been super frriends with the US. But an election is coming in december, Manuel Rosales, is the name od the oposition leader, and there is hope, however, it is known that the elections are going to be crooked, but lets see what happens. Best for All.

Thank You for that. It's good to hear from someone in Venezuela.

Is it possible for Rosales to win the election?

I read somewhere that Chavez numbers are down to 40% as opposed to 70% before and Rosales is climbing. Rosales is at 30%

I'm sure the majority of the population will go for Rosales, what I meant is how high is the possibility of fraud and Chavez getting away with it

Oh sorry misunderstood. If there is some rigging. I am sure Chavez would do anything in his power to silence those who know.

[On March 18, 2005] Chavez handed [Venezuela's minister of communication and information Andres] Izarra a still-bigger stick: a new penal code that criminalizes virtually any expression to which the government objects -- not only in public but also in private.

Start with Article 147: "Anyone who offends with his words or in writing or in any other way disrespects the President of the Republic or whomever is fulfilling his duties will be punished with prison of 6 to 30 months if the offense is serious and half of that if it is light." That sanction, the code implies, applies to those who "disrespect" the president or his functionaries in private; "the term will be increased by a third if the offense is made publicly."

There's more: Article 444 says that comments that "expose another person to contempt or public hatred" can bring a prison sentence of one to three years; Article 297a says that someone who "causes public panic or anxiety" with inaccurate reports can receive five years. Prosecutors are authorized to track down allegedly criminal inaccuracies not only in newspapers and electronic media, but also in e-mail and telephone communications.

Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez caused a stir this week during his visit to New York City, denouncing President Bush as "the devil" in a speech at the U.N. General Assembly and, during a visit to Harlem the following day, calling him an "alcoholic." In an exclusive interview with TIME's Tim Padgett, Chavez defended his controversial rhetoric as a necessary part of his leftwing revolution's effort to counter what he calls Bush's "global imperalism."

"Bush has called me worse things — tyrant, populist dictator, drug trafficker, to name a few," Chavez said. "I'm not attacking Bush; I'm simply counterattacking. Bush has been attacking the world, and not just with words — with bombs. I think the bombs he's unleashed on Baghdad or Lebanon do a lot more harm than any words spoken in the United Nations."

On the growing support in Latin America for his brand of "21st-century socialism," Chavez said: "After seeing the failure of Washington-backed capitalist reforms in Latin America, I no longer think a third way between capitalism and socialism is possible. Capitalism is the way of the devil and exploitation. If you really want to look at things through the eyes of Jesus Christ — who I think was the first socialist — only socialism can really create a genuine society."

Chavez expressed confidence that the U.N. will vote to give Venezuela a non-permanent seat in the Security Council next month. "It's because of the moment we're living right now, the need to block the cannons of the U.S. empire," he said. "The U.N.'s members believe we can have the most impact on that debate. The U.S. fears Venezuela's presence on the Council because it knows we'll be an independent vote for the Third World."

Chavez also had some pointed comments on his country's role as the hemisphere's largest oil producer. "Bush wanted Iraq's oil and I believe he wants Venezuela's oil," Chavez said. "But the blame for high oil prices lies in the consumer model of the U.S. Its reckless oil consumption is a form of suicide."

For more of TIME's interview with Chavez, see next week's magazine.

Chavez is a populist interested in being "King of the Mountain." He's somewhere in the middle of those two extremes.

Why do you think he's popular in Venezuela? The people seem to like him even though he's not very nice to the media.
If you looked at the video footage of Stalin, Hussein, and Hitler, you find the propaganda very similar. I don't think he's "popular" when he's not organizing "anti-war" rallies against Bush.

Ahmadinijad has double standards, too.

Why doesn't he ask Chavez to convert to Islam?

He's pissing on his own country in the process. He's a criminal by Venezuela's standards.
