We had an injured soldier pass through our airport yesterday.

He was in light-armoured vehicle in the touret when the vehicle caught on fire (not sure if it hit something, or if it was hit by something). The explosion fire went up over the front of the vehicle, and straight towards him. He reacted quickly, putting his hands over his face. at first glance (because of how he was dressed and how he was able to protect his face with his hands), you didn't see the burns. Then you saw his hands and his neck...the burns are very visible.

He was in a military hospital in the Middle East before returning to Illinois. They over-dosed him with morphine and sent hin into a comma for two weeks. He said he thought he was going to die. He returned home last week, I was told.

He will be traveling to St. Louis every two weeks or so to have his burns taken care of. The other soldier injured isn't fairing as well. They aren't sure if he will make it.

One of my employees significant other is in the same battalion...still in Iraq. It is soooo hard to watch her struggle though this....seeing her eyes when he passes through the airport. Watching her emotions as she hears the story.
