But please respond to this,

Let's say your mother was on the news,
receiving a "Humanitarian Award"

and you are channel surfing and land on msnbc and Chris Mathews, Keith Oberman, or Don Imus is chuckling and says
"Did you see that "SAGGY ASS WHORE" get that SUCKING award?
i'd be shocked, pissed and offended.

and then i'd change the station.

and if you, your mother, sister were on TV receiving an Award and a nationally televised person called (any of) you a SAGGY ASS WHORE

people on television for high achievement should not be belittled and ridiculed, even in a quasi comic/ news program

What would have happened if this was a bit in the SNL fake news cast?

If they put the women's Basketball team up and called "nappy headed hos"

Even if a black comic did this,
there would be an up-roar

Sinead paid a heavy price for just tearing a picture in two pieces,
Many think she was right

I would not want to be called a "SAGGY ASS WHORE" just because I did something good.

Besides I never leave the house without titanium reinforced panti-hose on.

First of all, we ain't no old-ass white men that sit up on MSNBC going hard on black girls. We are rappers that have these songs coming from our minds and our souls that are relevant to what we feel. I will not let them muthafuckas say we in the same league as him," - Snoop Dogg, on the Imus affair.

what Snoop is saying, i think, is the same old "i can mock my family, but you can't." i understand that. this is why white people can't say the N-word, and straight people can't say "Faggot."

but Snoop is also removing himself from any responsibility he might have in the presentation of the "ho" stereotype. like it or not, Snoop has helped make that word, and its attendent image, part of the cultural vernacular.

ahem:

she's a grown woman, she can handle herself how ever she wants to handle it.

look, no one knows how they would really handle a situation until they are put in it. speculating on what you would do is futile.

a regular imus character was cardinal o'connor (who later became cardinal egan after o'connor died)... portrayed with a deep irish accent, saying all sorts of outrageous, racist comments... being irish and catholic, i should be offended. i'm not.

is it the same thing? no, of course not... but it's as close as i can get without actually experiencing it.

ahem:

I think Imus dug himself in deeper by trying to deflect with this argument.

First he was contrite and taking responsibility
and then he was saying things like "rappers created those words"

Well, I have listened to plenty of Rap / hip hop and watched the films, and I would never throw out "nappy headed hos", especially at individuals that were behaving in activities almost at the opposite end of "Whoring".

I suppose watching some of the behavior of our darling, blond, blue-eyed celebrities could justify?

"shaved ass hos"

But, I would not even throw that out

^ am not excusing his words, am just saying that the words are part of the vernacular thanks to men like Snoop.

it's a complex thing.

Which doesn't belong and why?

LOL

Seriously, though, that was a characture, like many of the other impersonations that have been on the show.

this was IMUS talking, having a conversation about 18-21 year old women on a basketball team.

I understand your as close as you can get, having been a catholic, and coming from an Irish family. This is different.

Shouldn't we be just as offended by what Snoop said? Seriously? If Snoop thinks it's so wrong for Imus to say what he said, because he's white, isn't it just as wrong for a male (Snoop) to say what he does about women?

So basically, to Snoop, a woman from the hood who didn't go to school is nothing but a nappy headed, gold digging ho? Shit, at least you could make the excuse that Imus is old & out of touch and really had no idea how offensive his "nappy headed ho" comment might be...ol' Snoop sat there, thought about it, pondered, and busted that out. Way to go.

Ass.

Not to mention everything he's done since his first album has been pretty much crap...

So maybe MSNBC should hire Snoop Dogg to replace Imus.

i think it's fine for Snoop to talk about nappy-heads ... but i'm not so sure it's okay to talk about hos.

it seems to me that Snoop is, indeed, guilty of one of the two things Imus is guilty of -- misogyny, but not racism.

now we can debate the merits of artistic expression vs. comedy vs. reporting/interviewing, but taken out of context, which is the standard we've been holding Imus to, it seems as if Imus has two strikes against him and Snoop has one.
