The study did not find a complete elimination of racism, and I have seen the same cultural divide in Mississippi. I think it is important to consider the more objective measurement in comparison to personal experience. Using anecdotal experiences alone runs the risk of simply reinforcing what we already believe. The study challenges those observations and forces us to think of other influences for the difference.
The study may be flawed in methodology. As a general principle here, studies are taken at face value unless we can demonstrate clear flaws in the methodology. I would expect this study to receive the same treatment. I think the shift in the assumption (to it must be flawed) is another indicator that the study strongly challenges long held beliefs.
