[Q]Matt Is Sexier Than Paul?

9 minutes ago Add Oddly Enough - Reuters to My Yahoo!

LONDON (Reuters) - As Shakespeare said, a rose by any other name would smell as sweet. Right?

Wrong.

Scientists say the right name can make you sexier.

Linguist Amy Perfors, of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (news - web sites), posted photos of men and women on the U.S. Web site "Hot or Not," which lets viewers rate pictures according to how attractive they find them.

When she posted the same pictures with different names, she found that the attractiveness scores went up and down depending on the vowels, the London-based magazine New Scientist reported.

Men with "front vowels" in their names -- sounds formed at the front of the mouth like the "a" in Matt -- were considered sexier than men with "back vowel" sounds like the "au" in Paul, she concluded.

The opposite held for women, who were sexier with back vowels than front ones.

Perfors said front vowels are often perceived as "smaller" than back vowels, so the difference could be a sign that women are seeking men that are sensitive or gentle, traits usually perceived as feminine.

But men who might be thinking of taking more feminine names to become sexier should be careful not to go too far: men with women's names were rated least sexy of all. [/Q]

So what do you thing...do some names make you sexy? Do some make you more fit to be president?

Wilbur, does it turn you on?:eyebrow:

I think certain names have a positive connotation, if you had a crush on or relationship w/ someone of that name.

Of course they can also have negative connotations :| if you dislike someone who has that name, etc.

Obviously the person is what's important, not the name. Interesting idea though :)

There's some male names that I think are better than others, but not because of the way the vowels are or anything (after all, Bono's name is Paul...:p), actually, the names that I like, I like more due to the way they're spelled than anything else. But I'm not going to not like a guy or not date a guy based on what his name is-that's just silly.

hmm... what about women with "men's" names...
i KNEW my parents shouldn't have let my brother name me... toni, what kind of first name is that for a girl... it's not even SHORT for anything...

anyway, like angela said, i'm not going to decide who i'm going to date or not by whether i think his name is sexy.
that's just shallow.
i know some pretty cool people with not cool names. who cares?

but seriously... TONI!

I most definitely must agree 110% with this finding. I have absolutely no doubt in the world that this is true. I have never been so sure of anything in my life. I always knew it and was just waiting for science to back me up.

p.s. my name is Matt :p
