and in some clutures, where "virginity" is prized, some girls will have anal sex but not vaginal sex until they are married.

or so i hear.

Yes it's because of people like that woman that we shouldn't go around calling HIV/AIDS a gay disease. That's one reason we still see so much unsafe sex and risky behavior among straight people, that and the fact that some people think that the drugs and advanced treatments = AIDS is no longer a death sentence and is somehow not as bad as it used to be. I guess some people just want to have a certain type of sex life and live in denial. I think ads like that reinforce that notion and might reinforce ignorant stereotypes about gay people.

It is a human disease, and I prefer the Kenneth Cole ad campaign, "We all have AIDS"

Also, apparently condoms are more likely to break during anal sex than vaginal although I've never once had a gay friend mention a condom breaking (I guess they don't tell me everything ) nor have I ever had one break.
condoms definitely break during vaginal sex

If so few hetero men are affected why would so many young girls be acquiring it?

I read it as a message to the Gay community saying, "WE have a problem and WE need to address it." I also see deep's point that a straight man/woman might see that sign and think, "Well, not my problem." I think it's good for the gay community insofar as a call to responsibility. On the flipside, nosogood for the straight community in the area that misinterprets the sign.

I do not like it. I am not capable of verbalizing much more than that.

While we're on the topic of misattributions about the cause of AIDS, when I was volunteering at a primary school in Uganda last summer the P6 and P7 (hard to really give an age, rough equivalent of 12-17 years old) students did a practice debate. Their teachers chose the topic, "Science has done more harm than good." Valid points were made about weapons, the dominance of radios and TVs over local cultures... and then a kid said that science was bad because scientists created AIDS. Nobody in the classroom full of AIDS orphans, not even the teachers, blinked. I did not ever interupt the classes I wasn't running, even when teachers beat students, but this time I had to jump in and give an abbreviated lecture on AIDS/HIV.

i'm a little confused.

but, based on anecdotal evidence, most gay men i know are far, far more judicious about using condoms than the straight men i know.
