so ... cats are French and dogs are American?

(i'm a total dog person, btw)

I love it when liberals forget all about the 1st amendment when it doesn't work to support their own arguments.

FREE SPEECH! FREE SPEECH! FREE SPEECH! FREE SPEECH!

If someone wants to write, buy, or read this book it's their choice.
It never ceases to amaze me that the same people who rally for less censorship get their underwear up in a knot over something like this.
If the book sucks, then people won't buy it, recomend it, or read it to their children. Instead of condemning art or literature, let the general public determine its worth.

But then again, in the eyes of many people on this forum, anyone who would buy this book is probably too stupid to think for themselves. Better that Amazon refuse to sell it.

ugh.

no one is saying they *can't* write the book; we are saying that it speaks volumes about a political ideology that they have childhood indoctrination books about HRC-bomb and Teddy Kennedy stand-ins posing as the monsters under the bed. and it also speaks volumes when people actually go out and buy this tripe -- it tells you, 1) about the polarization of the country, 2) the paranoia of the right, and 3) the contempt that right wing elites have for their base because they know someone's going to buy it.

That's purely ridiculous. No one in this thread has said that the person who wrote the book should not have been allowed to write it, that the publisher of the book should not have been allowed to print it, or that Amazon should not be allowed to sell it. I support this author's right to spout nonsense as well as the publisher's and Amazon's right to profit from it. As long as a piece of speech, writing, or art isn't intended to directly incite chaos or violence, it's 100% kosher...legally speaking.

Whether or not I, or anyone else, finds it artistically appealing or ethically sound is another matter altogether.

Would words fail you if you came across a book entitled, "There's a republican under my bed" or "There's a evangelical christian opposing gay marriage under my bed"?

So anyone who indoctrinates children about anything is wrong? Or just people who subscribe to a particular worldview? Just trying to figure out what exactly we're finding fault with here...

One reviewer writes...

"This horrifies me. Is brainwashing children a form of child abuse? I think so, and with that, this book is a bloody mallet. I have flipped this through this dreg and it is not cute, funny or satirical. Anyone who gives this propaganda to their children is as innocent as Stalin, Hitler or Bush. Jr. Of course, if you are purchasing this for your children, you think the same of me. And that's fine. But the larger difference between you and me is that your kids will grow up to hate you. Don't buy this book."

It really isn't satire.
Thats what is so scary.
The people reading this and buying this crap are brainwashed simpletons.
Usually living down South.
Trust me.
I work with them. They discuss it at lunch. Constantly.

i think there's a difference between what we typically indoctrinate children with -- perhaps religion, American history, etc. -- versus telling them which contemporary politicans might be lurking under their beds.
