You don't come out hating anyone. You also don't come out loving anyone, angry at anyone or most of those other things.
But the first time a bully knocks you down in the schoolyard and keeps on doing it for every day of the schoolyear, nobody has to teach you to hate. (Not that happened to me, just an example).
You may not hate him. But if you do, no one had to teach you.

I think I take your point that it is not fullblown, defining characteristic. But a situational reaction does not have to be taught. That is hardwiring. Now whether it's appropriate is a whole other discussion.

I hate capri pants and buying three pairs has not caused them to go out of style....I hate that!
(I consider them lazy clothes-they are comfortable to throw on....but I still don't like them)

True, this is reflex. I'm not arguring that the emotional response isn't hardwired, but this isn't the same as instinct.

Instinct needs to be unconscious, involuntary, and unlearned. And it needs to be passed down genetically in a group. If all humans responded the same way emotionally to being pushed down I would agree it may be instinct, but they don't.

Oh, I'm not arguing instinct. I don't have a clue on that. I'm just questioning the points several people made about hatred being learned or taught.

When somebody hates the New York Yankees Baseball Club, that is actually taught at birth. Especially if you're from the bitter Northeast region of the US. Gee, where could that be?
Seriously, I took a number of socialogy classes over the years and I'm one of those humans that believes that we have no instincts. That, as a consequence of our environment, we are taught everything.

We are animals with the capacity for complex social interactions; things like pareidolia, empathy and the capacity for language are derived traits that have been positively selected for by our ancestors in their environments. What a society regards as sexy is correlated to fecundity, and there are common ties across all human cultures; human beings are more or less the same ~ and it isn't because we are learning the same knowledge.

I don't know about having no instincts, but I sure as hell don't believe we can absolve ourselves of being responsible for fostering hate by saying it's an instinct. Finding food & shelter and escaping danger are instincts - basic survival stuff. But feeling an emotion as a result of someone's actions? No.

There is a difference between feelings and actions; I honestly don't think that we can have too much willfull control over the way that we feel but we can definitely control our actions. It's not wrong to hate somebody, it is wrong to act violently or attack them (in most cases).

3 Questions:
1) Are we all born with Hate in us?
2) Is it hidden and only opened when we want it to be part of our lives?
3) Have you or do you still hate anyone, anything?

This and the three posts above it are pretty careless uses of the word "hate." They are equivalent to the way that I might say "I love pizza" or "I love the Boston Red Sox."

Genuine "love" and "hate" are much stronger forces.

But if hatred of people is always wrong, does it follow that hatred of any and all things is wrong? I don't think so.

Hate is taught and learned, but it can be unlearned-that takes work. Hate is easy and also a product of laziness- love is much more difficult. I don't believe we are genetically wired to hate, hate comes from free will. You make a conscious decision to hate-even if you feel certain hates in your heart you don't have to act on them, and you can recognize them and acknowledge them and banish them from your heart and brain if you try hard enough.

There is real hate and more harmless "hate" (such as "hate" of a sports team or temporary emotional hate that usually comes from personal hurt and pain). I don't classify many "hates" as real ones.

Hate of the NY Yankees is perfectly acceptable
