TERRORIST Jack Roche will be free in less than three years despite confessing to plotting a deadly bombing campaign in the name of al-Qaeda.

As he made history as the first person in Australia convicted of being a terrorist, his sentence came under attack.
The prosecution had urged the judge to impose the maximum 25 years to act as a "dramatic deterrent" to those planning atrocities. "He planned to bring the ideas, the people who are the scourge of the modern, civilised world into his own country," prosecutor Ron Davies, QC, said.
But Judge Paul Healy jailed Roche for nine years with a non-parole period of 4?.

Hey, let's invite Habib and Hicks back here to be charged with the terror laws put in place after their arrests, hell they may get even less (if they are guilty beyond reasonable doubt etc. etc.).

I think that he should be fully investigated for any links with Al Qaeda and his actions while in Afghanistan properly scrutinized. Then if he is innocent he must be released but if he is guilty (planning terrorist attacks etc.) then he must be sentenced, the evidence must be made open and he should be sent back here to serve his time.
