Yet another female teacher... damned good looking, might add... has been charged with the statutory rape of a student, this time a 13 year old boy.

A few questions I've been wondering about...

--Why does it seem that this is happening more often?
--Did this sort of thing always happen, but was never reported?
--How come the dominating feeling is that if a male school teacher has sex with a female student, he's a peverted freak who needs to be locked away forever... yet when a female teacher has sex with a male student, it's merely a fantasy come true? Why the double standard?

Maybe I'm out of the loop, but I don't know of anyone who thinks ANY adult - be they male or female - having sex with a minor of 13(!) is a fantasy come true. That's sick, no matter which angle you look at it from.
Granted, as a 17-yr old, I myself had a 30-something male history teacher that I would have gladly participated in some extra-credit activies with if he'd presented me with the opportunity. I'm glad he didn't because in hindsight I know that would have been a TOTAL disaster!!!
But any so-called adult who even CONSIDERS having sex with a child of 12, 13, 14??? - that's a long way from fantasy in my book.

It's interesting to me that we're hearing more cases of it being a female teacher with a male student. I'm sure it happens alot vice-versa...so why aren't we hearing about that?

Actually, you would be surprised.

My son's kindergarten teacher was a very attractive blond. I recall on many occassion overhearing the other dads comment about how their teachers never looked like that.

My son is now in 4th grade. With easy access to internet porn, some boys are building their fantasies about sex. It is interesting to hear the stories from our son each day.

So, by 7th or 8th grade, there are boys who would consider this a fantasy. If the sons are lusting after the teacher, it is not unreasonable to say that some of the dads would be lusting as well.

a bunch of mothers have the hots for my german teacher...as well as many of the students. i agree he's an extremely good looking guy and a fellow liberal, but in no way would i ever go beyond a friendly relationship...nor would he.

There's a female middle school teacher here in OC who has been arrested for having 2 long term sexual relationships with male students, one which started when the boy was 11 years old. A third boy has also come forward to say that she touched him inappropriately and 28 new charges were added.

The police found love letters and journals detailing their sexual encounters and even after she was arrested, she asked if she could speak to the boys :|

I am the mother of 3 sons and I would be enraged if this had happened to one of them. I can't fathom any adult woman seeing an 11, 12 or 13 year old boy in a sexual manner.

If you have sexual contact with a child, you are a child molester, plain and simple. Male or female, its a crime.

I think it happens more often than people think. I remember in the dorms in college we brought this up because we were wondering if anybody fooled around/ knew someone who fooled around with a teacher. I was really suprised how many girls said they knew someone who had, but in all those cases except for 1 it was a male teacher/high school female.

I'm a teacher and not to sound conceited, people have said I'm an attractive guy. Some of my students try to flirt with me daily and there have been some really uncomfortable situations, but it's easy to just ignore flirty girls in my opinion and just kinda laugh to myself about it. The people who cross that line have to be screwed up in the head if you ask me.

I agree that having any kind of sexual relationship with a minor is sick. However, I wonder if these allegations are ture. It seems strange that this kind of thing seems to be happening all of the sudden and so much!
CHILDREN DO LIE. It could be the case that they just want to get back at these teachers for failing grades or something else.
I dont think it is fair to just assume the teacher is quilty just because these kids are accusing her. Again children lie all the time.

Yes, kids do lie and make things up to get back at teachers and I'm sure not every single case is true. More than a few teachers have had their lives and careers ruined by false accusations.

In the case of the teacher in my area, there are notes and recorded phone calls to back up the boy's stories. And, she was stupid enough to use the school email system to communicate with them.

Yes children lie...

but it's this mentality that baffles me.

Do you know how many rapes, molestations, and abuse go without being stated every year? Often the victim feels to blame, or theirs some backmail being held over their heads, etc.

Especailly in males. When molested by another man there's the humiliation of society. And when molested by a female, it's just "what are you complaing of, you just had an older women want you?"

So either kids are lying more than generations before or kids are becoming more comfortable coming out and saying they were a victim. Could be a case of both, but I find your mentality a little disturbing especially since having a mother who use to work with sexually abused children.

All I am doing is saying we need to look at both sides of the issue. I am not saying and NEVER said kids don't get abused. I just find it strange that all of the sudden several teachers have been accused of this behavior. I just think the public has been to quick to jump to conclusions. I am a teacher and I know kids lie all the time for all different reasons and their behavior can cause a lot of lasting problems even when the truth comes out.
On the same token, I need to make it very clear that I am NOT insensitive to abused children.

I don't think a 13 year old is mature enough to be having sex w/ another 13 year old or anyone of any age. Any adult in a position of responsibility, authority, and trust has no business whatsoever having sex w/ someone that age or under 18-I think anyone who does that is a "perverted freak" whether they're male or female. Whatever their excuses are-their messed up childhood or whatever they want to say.

A 13 year old boy might tell his friends he thinks it's great, but deep down I don't see how he can't be suffering mentally and emotionally because of it. To do that to a teenager or a child is a crime pure and simple. I don't see where there's that much of a double standard, except for guys who might think it's funny or "hot".

If anyone remembers that case in NH of Pam Smart, the teacher who had an "affair" w/ her 16 year old student-he ended up killing her husband for her.

I disagree. A friend of a friend of mine did this. The boy was 16. We used to see him at parties and wonder why this student was at a party with 30-somethings. It was all really icky. Not a double standard at all.

I think it seems like it happens so much (older female with young male) because it gets over reported on the media so much because of how unusual it is. I mean how many cases of this have we heard about? 4? 5? Really that's not very many.

I did see a program on Court TV (or some other network, not sure exactly) that dealt with this. It was an hour long. The teacher was married, yet ended up having sex with a student, and it seemed as if she had some kind of compulsive disorder because she kept getting back with him after she lost her job and husband over it the first time.

Somehow, the boy and his mother ended up suing her over and over, as if they were using her - AND NO DEFENSE FOR HER, SHE CERTAINLY DESERVED THE PUNISHMENTS GIVEN BY LAW. The boy's mother seemed to not only allow this to happen, but encouraged it in a way. The boy and the mother tried to sue for $2 million over it.

I think the three craziest people in that city just happened to find each other, and it was an ongoing mess. The boy's mother, I found incredibly greedy and irresponsible. The boy, also no sense of decency. The teacher, obviously, involved in an improper relationship, and allowed this to happen to her.

I don't get it.
Nobody wins.

Then there's the female teacher who famously had sex with her underrage student (can't remember her name), she's about to finish her prison term, she and the boy kept in touch, they are in love, he is now of age, and they plan to get married.

Didn't she get pregnant by him in prison again? Once he was of age to visit her in prison? Or did he get her pregnant before she went into prison?

If we had a name we could google it. I can't remember all the details.

Mary Kay Letourneau is her name. She was put on probation, and met up with the boy, Villi Fualaau, within a day or two and were caught having sex in a car. She got pregnant again from him, went back to prison for several more years. Got out last year, but now the boy is no longer a minor, and met up soon after. Now they're going to get married. They have two children together.

But I think you've proven the point. If a male my age was seen with a 16 year old at a party the cops probably would have been called right then and there. People wouldn't just think "icky" and leave it ignored.

I know of a few cases in Australia in which the double standard has been exercised to breaking point. Its the sad truth that when people think of sex offenders and paedophiles they generally think of males. I have to admitt, that is the image that I get as well, yet, I know that women can be sex offenders too. It just doesn't happen as often statistically.

I also think that the number of times that this happens is not becoming more frequent, it just gets on the news a lot more.

My dad used to work in an office that distributed teachers around state schools in Victoria. In those days there was no way of litagation and barely any charges in place to deal with teachers who had it off with students. You just had to keep moving them from one school to another and hope that the offenders didn't do it again. Luckily and thankfully the justice system is slowly catching up with the people who do this to under age students. And not before time either.

Cheers

Yeah, that's the one the TV special was about, and the one Joyfulgirl and Dreadsox are talking about. Even though they're legal now, still, I don't feel right about it. It still strikes me as bizzare.
