Yeah, if the far left has taken over, they've done a pretty lame job of enacting their far left "agenda" so far.

Yeah, real easy to register in Florida as well. They come through all the high school senior classes and give you a basic slip to register, or pre-register so that you're automatically registered when you turn 18. Alternatively you can just regiser with your license at the DMV.

Same here. I was really excited to get one of those registration slips in high school.

given the rather right leaning party in power in new zealand is working on free contraception for unemployed women (a start, at least), you'd be nuts to suggest the democrats are far left.

not really a comparison, just saying.

I think the country's nasty earthquakes are about the only thing I DON'T find attractive about New Zealand so far .

I could have put this in any of 3 threads,

I put it here because I believe it pertains to Romney's much improved chances for election in November.

Overall, 51% approve of Obama's new position on same-sex marriage, compared with 45% who disapprove. Nearly 13% say his shift in position will make them more likely to vote for him, while 26% say it will make them less likely, suggesting that more supporters of likely GOP nominee Mitt Romney feel more strongly about this issue than do base supporters of Obama.

Since Obama announced on Wednesday his shift on the issue in an interview with ABC News' Robin Roberts, his campaign has highlighted his position on gay rights while charging that Romney would further restrict rights for same-sex couples. Though Obama endorsed gay marriage, he told Roberts that the issue should be a matter for each state to decide on individually.

the 51% approval sounds good, but it is very misleading

polls in NC showed a majority was not in favor of outlawing all gay relationships, so what happened?

about 30% showed up to vote, it passed by 22% - 61 for 39 against

ask someone, how do you feel about gays marrying?

"I don't care" are you likely to vote, "Nah, who cares".

also quite a bit of support is in larger states, that push the number up.

I'd like to see a poll in the 'undecided states'. I don't believe the numbers would be as good.

regardless, at this point, I am still inclined to vote for Obama, my vote does and does not matter. It won't change the outcome. CA will go for Obama by a wide margin. But it will be added to the national total, like the one that said the American people spoke in 2000 and the majority of them chose Al Gore to be the President. That is one reason I feel strongly about voting, I want there to be a record for all to see what really is the desire of the American people that took the time to vote. Not some asshat unAmerican vote system, where one person's vote can have 8? times the weight of another person vote.

Mitt passes the test, and picks up the mantle.

does Mitt know most of those non-interracial coupling students without countercultural hairstyles (it's in their rulebook) think he's a cultist?

Yes they think his religion is a cult but he has to kiss their butts anyway. I guess that's why he threw in the one man one woman thing. I'm Mitt and I only have ONE wife. Don't confuse me with that Cody annoying-as-hell Sister Wives guy.

Ron Paul's ardent supporters are not likely to line up behind Romney.

Well the true supporters still believe he's going to win:

(From one of the posters on that link)

I don't think Mitt Romney even has a chance to be the GOP nominee. It's funny how blatant the Mainstream Media ignores the actual delegate count. I wonder what they will do when Ron Paul wins the GOP nomination on the first ballot at Tampa...Will they keep reporting that Romney won already?

I am hopeful...even with the amount of media bias against Ron Paul, he is still wracking up delegates. Here is the actual delegate count: The Real 2012 Delegate Count for the Republican Primaries & Caucuses

Do you really think the far left has taken over the Democratic Party?

Sure by American standards.

What turned generational Democrats into Reagan Democrats?
What was the creation of the DNC in the 90's in response to?
What happened to Southern Democrats?
Where are the Catholic pro-life Democrats in national politics?
How many Blue Dog Democrats are left in the House? 20?
Who replaced Scoop Jackson as a Democratic Hawk? Joe Lieberman, oh wait he was primaried out of the party and is now an independent.
Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi... yes, the far-left is running the Democratic Party.

You mean the universal health care program that was deemed acceptable by Republicans in the early 1990s, or the series of bailouts started under the Bush Administration?

I think it's fair to say that there aren't really many right-wing Democrats left, although there are a lot of pro-life Democrats. But left-wing Republicans, like Lincoln Chafee and Jim Jeffords, are also gone. And I also don't think it's fair to say that the core of the Democratic party has shifted particularly far to the left in recent years.

A lot of people do these comparisons with politicians from different eras. It is kind of pointless.

The right/ left and conservative/ liberal are defined by the times they are in.

Some things yes, but to deny that their are universal definitions and to deny the fact that one's own extreme right or left placement will skew these things is ignoring the whole picture.

I get that America is 'conservative' (whatever that means), but you gotta ask yourself how far right the window can shift before you're talking real damage. If Obama is a socialist, you're in a world of trouble.

I love that Obama and Pelosi's names are evidence in and of themselves that the far left has taken over. That's great debate, right there with the word "ramifications."

It's funny how the one thing that unites left and right wing voters in Australia and New Zealand is that, every four years, a considerable majority of them cross their fingers and hope the Democrats win in the US.

Isn't this true for, uhh, everywhere in the world? Except maybe Israel?
