I don't believe in fate, but I do believe in karma.

hmmm.... this is interesting... one of the definitions of karma, is FATE

kar∑ma
n.
1. Hinduism & Buddhism. The total effect of a person's actions and conduct during the successive phases of the person's existence, regarded as determining the person's destiny.
2. FATE; DESTINY.
3. Informal. A distinctive aura, atmosphere, or feeling: There's bad karma around the house today.

The first definition is the one that matters. The other two are Western adaptations of the concept.

Most people quote this from the Bible:

Quote:
I again saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift, and the battle is not to the warriors, and neither is bread to the wise, nor wealth to the discerning, nor favor to men of ability ...
But everyone usually forget what follows:

Quote:
for time and chance overtake them all.
Eccleiastes 9:11

And that, I believe, is the point.

Grace... she travels outside of karma.

I believe in both. I believe that things happen for a reason, and I'm a strong believer in what goes around comes around.

no, not puppets at all, but the concept of karma means that all of our experience is based on the causes that we ourselves put forth--either in this lifetime or another. Karma=cause & effect.

I would actually say that it is one's fate to experience the effects of the causes one puts forth.

Same here.

Abel, in saying that I believe in karma, I mean that I believe in cause and effect. I believe you reap what you sow. I do not believe that your life is already mapped out for you, and no matter what you do, you will come to the same conclusion.
