Down the Censorship Slope

What's next, removing all books that make reference to God or Jesus???

Rossford cancels Christian rock band; local group was to play at anti-drug school assembly next week

Is it really religious music??

I guess U2 should be banned from public facilities as well.....

Yes, this is censorship too. Is it not?

This is stupid. They weren't telling anyone they *had* to like the music.

Maybe this will open religious whackos eyes a bit as well. After all, they are just as guilty when it comes to wanting to censor things.

If they had cancelled a performance by the band because their hair was too long, we'd think it was dumb, but we wouldn't be crying "censorship". I don't really see the difference between that scenario and this one, dumbness and all.

"Censorship" implies that the band had a right to play at the school, and I don't think that's the case, any more than I think a Satan-worshipping band has a right to play there.

What if U2 was ragged at your school because Bono wanted to include "All Because of You" on the setlist? Sounds pretty crummy to me.

Yeah they draw their fish in the sand. It's not like they have song titles named after God or anything...

I know not allowing the f-word on TV is censorship. I know that not allowing a naked person to spread their crapper apart on TV is censorship. However, these examples are far more indecent than a band who acknowledges to follow Christianity.

Course, then again, we condemn them for censoring things, and then turn right around and do the same thing we yell at them for doing-that doesn't really make much sense.

Anywho, I do think this is dumb. If the band wants to play there, they should be able to.

Censorship is fine with most as long as what they oppose is being censored.

Very rarely do you find people of moral courage enough to fight against censorship as a concept.

Being that the students had a choice if they wanted to see the band or not, then I agree this is stupid.

An interesting choice for an example, but censorship is about much more than indecentcy. All kinds of things are censored in this nation not just those things found indecent.

The problem is no one on the right will stand up and fight against this using censorship as their reason, because then they will be opening a floodgate of ideas and images that they've been censoring for years.

Dread said it all, you won't find someone who will fight for censorship as a concept.
