There is no contradiction.....It is perfectly Clear.

:madspit:

Click the link it explains it all....ye who believes in contradictions.

34.
Judging of others forbidden
[Matt 7:1,2]

Judging of others approved [1 Cor 6:2-4 / 1 Cor 5:12]
This is a commonly employed 'contradiction' which also ignores context. Mt 7 is not dealing with judging in of itself, rather, it speaks of hypocrisy -- judging others by standards that one does not live by.

~Matthew says:
1“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

this explains so much.

all ye literalists: repent now!!!

(just kidding, but there's a kernal of truth in there)

15.
God is cruel, unmerciful, destructive, and ferocious
[Jer 13:14 / Deut 7:16 / 1 Sam 15:2,3 / 1 Sam 6:19]

God is kind, merciful, and good [James 5:11 / Lam 3:33 / 1 Chron 16:34 / Ezek 18:32 / Ps 145:9 / 1 Tim 2:4 / 1 John 4:16 / Ps 25:8]

The first set of scriptures say nothing about God being cruel (this is a subjective call). They deal simply and bluntly with God's judgment. Thus, we have a both/and situation here. Yes, God is merciful and full of compassion. Yet, those who reject his mercy and compassion will find that His judgment in unrelenting and ferocious -- that is His nature.

There mere instance of a 'both/and' situation is in itself a contradiction. Mercy on it's own has definitions which even God can't get around. .."Yet, those who reject his mercy and compassion will find that His judgment in unrelenting and ferocious -- that is His nature. - Isn't merciful.

Your bible is different then mine.

Well I laughed, when I was browsing Dread's link and the chapter numbers on the sub description for each usually led to an excerpt from the related passage but that one didn't even have a passage to refer to...

Yet there's no contradiction at all so we have nothing to worry about!

dont make FYM into a bible forum..........

pllllllllllllllllllllllleeeeeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzzz

i am sure not many people are interested in whether or not certain book which was written thousands of years ago is contradictory ot not.

an utter waste of time..

lets waste time properly.. :)

Well...start a thread....

I find it refreshing after the past year of election stuff.

Well, apparently, AcrobatMan, enough people are interested in it that this thread hasn't sunk.

FYM is the proper forum for religious debates. So here they are.

If you don't like it, you're free to leave.

Well, when you think about it, we mere mortals only understand one thing in relation to its opposite. It's the world of duality. Would we understand evil without good, happiness without sadness, man without woman, etc? Also, there's an old saying that the truth is what the opposites have in common. Perhaps therein lies one's homework with the Bible. But of course I'm not a Christian...

Oh come on...half the lyrics on the new album are inspired by the bible...surely this discussion is as relevant as discussions over Dubya....

I enjoy religious discussions...people are always telling me I'm gonna go to hell, I might as well try to figure out why. :D Or at least why they think I'm gonna go to hell.

Each on of the 143 attempts at biblical understanding could be their own thread.

The general notion of "biblical contradiction" is greeting card theology at best.

Well, that is just it then, lets not talk about it.:madspit:

I think that is an oversimplification of the issue.

Actually, I said we should discuss the specific notions.

But the broad generalzation of "biblical contradiction" is not scholarly at all.

I've noticed a number of posts that suggest that books attributed to the same author are "actually" written by different authors. The basis for this conclusion are differences in writing style, etc.

I would suggest that if we took everything you wrote over a year or two, I could pick three separate writings that, when analyzed would say that there were different authors for the three writings.

You could, but is there historical evidence to back it up? The words alone do not justify the conclusion.

There is historical evidence of three two for traditions being combined, explained in the fact that they were not a united tribe or nation, but they had similar traditions, stories, and mythologies.

Mine is probably just a case of split personality.

I've made it a rule for my theology: never trust a biblical critique if it financially or professionally benefits the author. If they write a book about why something is different than we've always assumed, they're always lying.

 , or not.

If Bono and the boys are hardcore believers in jesus, why is there even a discussion, if you love u2 then u must love the works of Jesus, as bono has stated Jesus is his hero, and emulates him as much as possible. So why all the hubub???????????? If you hate the Bible why even listen to someone like Bono, seems foolhardy, i wouldnt listen to alesiter crowleys type of music.
