Dangerous (alleged) Bias

September 29, 2004 -- The Justice Department has charged that a veteran New York Times foreign correspondent warned an alleged terror-funding Islamic charity that the FBI was about to raid its office — potentially endangering the lives of federal agents.

This is quite scary, I mean NYT normally has a good deal of bias but this - if it pans out, the Justice Department do not lay charges over idle issues - quite a statement about some in the media.

I'm suspicious. I wonder if this is true or a ploy by the administration to discredit the Times. I know I shouldn't think that way but I would put nothing past them at this point especially considering the FBI is trying subpoena phone records from the Times to find out who their anonymous government sources are, which is a breach of the First Amendment.

Plus, it's the Post -- the red-headed stepchild of the Times. It's owned by News Corp., headed by Bush supporter Rupert Murdoch, and it ran the infamous "Kerry chooses Gephardt as VP" headline.

The NY Times was already discredited a long time ago with the Jayson Blair fiasco.

The fact that this is quoted from the Post doesn't eliminate Justice Department charges.
