But so many of you say this and in the end when it happens you say I knew he was always like that and this would happen.

I just wanted to say that there is a difference in the way Hitler came to power, and the power Ahmadinejad actually has.

The constition of the Weimar Republic was democratic, but also had some "mistakes" Hitler exploited to become the Chancellor. Then he could overthrow the democratic system and enter into a dictatorship.

Ahmadinejad may be President, but behind him there is a very powerful system that actually makes the decisions.
So the ways both of them came to power may be similar, they got elected, but that's all.

Uh... how about not putting words into other peoples' mouths? Anitram has a very legitimate point, and fabricating our position for us isn't quite the appropriate way to answer that.

Is it possible Ahmadinejad may one day rise to power? Sure, lots of things are possible. But he is not in power, and as Vincent has so clearly pointed out, the structure is not there to make a Hitler comparison.

Whatever the state of Ahmedinejad's mind the sharing of nuclear weapon technology among Islamic countries and the reestablishment of those networks raises the risks of nuclear exchanges exponentially.

Iran itself may have leaders with some sense of self preservation but it could usher in a period of hyperproliferation; Saudi Arabia and Egypt are already taking steps in that direction to counter Iran.

Why is it ok for the US, the UK, France, Israel, etc, to have nukes, and not ok for Iran (a country that has never invaded anyone) to have them?

I ask the question purely out of interest - I have no idea whether or not Iran is indeed seeking to possess nukes - but assuming for the sake of argument that it were, a CIA report has concluded that it would take them until 2016 to develop their first operational weapon.

There is nothing wrong with the nation of Iran having nuclear weapons, there is something very wrong with Mullahs having weapons.

At least one of Iran's neighbors--Turkey--is not happy with the idea of it having nuclear weapons. When I was in Turkey I heard alot of complaints about a nuclear Iran. The relationship between Ankara and Terhan is a frosty one, to say the least.

Exactly. Iran is run by the clerics, and Ahmadinejad is their current bimbo figurehead. He's not "in" with the clerics at all besides fronting the Iranian government, and there have been recent reports that he may be on his way out because of his stupid remarks raising international ire.

There are factions within the political establishment, Ahmedinejad is the very public face of one that views the return of the occulted as a reality - his actions and statements over the years are consistent with that.
