Actually, mine didn't. I chose to do it later in life, when I was 21 to be exact. Highly recommend it.
Why exactly?

Why was it done ? None of your business

Why do I recommend it ? Cleaner , more hygienic, more "endurance", my wife also prefers it.

Sometimes parents do painful things to their children because they do in fact know what's best for them. Whether it's grounding them, or whatever. It's part of our "job". if you had kids you'd know that. Not everyone who has their kids circumcised is a mindless drone as you seem to paint them.
It's your choice to mutilate yourself. After all, if that's what you prefer, then be my guest. Some people like tattoos. Some people like tons of piercings. And for that reason, I have no problems in regards to whatever people choose to do to themselves.

But for those who regret it, they can't go back. I don't think it is the right of the parents to mangle their children, because they're too lazy to teach their children how to be clean. I also say the same thing about parents who pierce their children's ears before they're old enough to choose too. It is an optional and unnecessary procedure like any tattoo or tongue splitting.

In other words, the operative word is "choice."

Again, how many kids do you have ?

Parenting advice duly noted and filed in appropriate place.

Hey, if fellow parents want to post their opinions and give me parenting advice, that's cool.

I don't/can't tell Melon how to Melon's job as I'm probably not qualified. And vice-versa.

So I presume you think it's okay for African parents to perform female genital mutilation? How dare we tell those parents how to raise their children. After all, until they're 18, you own your children's genitals, right?

I'll be frank. I don't think it's your right to make unnecessary bodily surgery on your children. In fact, I don't think it's any parents' right to do that. Legally, sure. Ethically, no. As I see it, when children hit 21 years old or so, and if they decide it annoys them, they can have the elective surgery on their own. After all, you made that decision yourself.

Again, it's about their *choices.* And a choice that you've made might be good for you, but it is not universally good for everyone else.

And, frankly, this goes back to a point I once noted. When it comes to telling third world countries that their practices are backwards, we have no problems pointing the fingers and then shaking our heads as to why they won't change. The fact, however, is that we're just the same: doing barbaric and illogical acts all our own.

I believe Mrs. BAW already said she agreed with melon earlier in the thread and she has kids so there you go.
