Crikey, although I can't say I'm completely surprised...

I wonder if he was in denial about how ill he was - I am sorry to hear this and send prayers out to his family...

Not a big surprise, but filling his seat should be very interesting.

Yes, this appointment will attract the political vultures.

Grr, this news interrupted the football game I was watching.

Not really a surprise, though. Everyone's been expecting this for some time now. The resulting political battle for regarding filling his seat should definitely be interesting.

Between John Roberts, the Katrina fallout, and now this, it should be an interesting September in Congress.

But, politics aside, many condolences to his family.

Wow. Just wow. As if enough wasn't going on.

This is going to be quite a week in DC. Am just worried that in the midst of the Reinquist news, we somehow forget Katrina.

Yeah, it's definitely safe to say Washington's politicians' plates are gonna be full up for a while...

Sad news about Rehnquist . My condolances to his family and his friends, and may he rest in peace.

Is it bad that when I heard the news my reaction was "Oh now we'll have two more right wingers on the bench!"

My condolences to the family.

Nah that's not bad at all U2dem.

So will Bush try and bump Thomas up to Chief Justice to show that he really does like black people after all?

He was a sick man, unfortunately. But a good judge. All the best to his friends and family.
