BREAKING NEWS. . .Rehnquist Resigns?????

Quote:
Hello everyone. Now I know that we usually,
indeed always, only post things that are Ann
Coulter related. We're sort of masochistic that
way. But we have become privy to a
yet-to-be-broken news story. According to a
source very close to the Bush administration,
US Supreme Court Chief Justice William
Rehnquist has submitted his resignation to
President Bush. Apparently they are waiting
until the Supreme Court's term ends this week
to make this announcement . This comes
after months of speculation that he was nearing retirement, due largely to poor health. Numerous sources,
however, had speculated in recent weeks that Justice Rehnquist might
actually stay on for another year. According to our source, President Bush
has accepted the Chief Justice's resignation, so look for this story to
break towards the end of this week. This, of course, means a potentially
heated Senate battle over Bush's nominee-to-be. According to our
source, the short list of possible nominees includes John Roberts (D.C.
Circuit), Michael McConnell (10th Circuit), J. Michael Luttig (4th Circuit),
and J. Harvie Wilkinson (4th Circuit).

Let's see what kind of neandertal Bush will appoint. Let me guess: he hates science, women, minorities, anyone who makes less than $200,000 a year, homosexuals, hates it when insurance companies pay out any kind of money to anybody, and thinks that the Constitution was written to create a theocracy.

i think this time, Bush will go for a Clarence Thomas-type conservative, which is to say a Scalia lapdog.

Everyone really thinks there's absolutely no chance of appointing a moderate? I'm really pinning my hopes on the few moderates--the "anti-nuclear" crowd, if we all remember the filibuster nightmare--to avoid appointing another (as Irvine so charmingly and accurately put it) Scalia lapdog.

i think you're right.

goody. another divisive social/cultural issue to consume valuable news space and divert and distract us from things that actually matter, like:

health care
education
global HIV/AIDS
North Korea
Israel/Palestine
Iraq
Iran
managing the inevitable rise of China
free/fair trade

becuase, you see, abortion is the only thing that matters and people should only vote in regards to whether or not a politician is pro-life.

(and, btw, while gay marriage is important to me, on a global level, i view it as far, far less important than any of the issues above ... i also would never vote for a politician soley because they are for gay marriage)

(and, please, let's not rehash the abortion debates ... my only intention was to show that that particular issue is so emotional that it distracts from what really matters)

"Distracts from what really matters"?

But you see, prolifers wiould say that saving the lives of babies does indeed really matter.

I know you said "let's not rehash the abortion debates", but by making the statement that abortion doesn't really matter, you are the one doing the rehashing.
